Actually, I read some web sites on Splenda and some people have claimed

it made them have such bad mood swings, they thought they were going

nuts. Splenda is chlorinated sugar. Some believe the chlorine makes it

possibly toxic. I am wary of it, but still use it sometimes.

Hi!!! It's nice to meet you! Welcome, and all that :).

I think " Spenda " is the very best as far as taste. And, there aren't

any *known* health implications, etc....thus far.

I have used Splenda sice way before the FDA approved of it in the US.

I used to buy it from Canada where they have used it quite a long

time. I think what I heard is the clorne in it was not bad compared

to what we get in our water. Anyway....I don't do many " sweets " so

don't use too much. I do put it on my oatmeal along with some

nurtisweet bn sugar. I think if you compare the other atifical

sweetners you' find Splenda safer. The good thing about it is you

can bake with it and even make merignes. There are many " scares " of

using aspartium (sp?) over the internet....another example of our

fears getting the best f us. That " scare " recently was sent to me via

email. I looked up the info and found it tobe an " urban legion " .

Back to Splenda...I have never had an adverse reaction and years ago

when doing Atkins and on other boards wher ethey all love

Splenda..have never heard of problems.

I'm am extremely prone to headaches, both your garden-variety

daily sort and migraines.

I have been using Splenda exclusively since January when I

started my fitness journey.

I haven't had a migraine since. And I've only had one

headache...after averaging 3-5 weekly for as long as I can

remember!! :)

Now, if I were to make a correlation fallacy, I might say that

because my headaches stopped when I started using Splenda,

Splenda took my headaches away! ;) But I'm sure it has more to

do with the fact that I'm eating right and exercising.

I've not heard of a single downside to Splenda in terms of taste, fat loss or

safety issues.

Well, wait, there is one of those urban legend type sites that says Splenda will

give you psychotic episodes and whatnot. However, I'm consuming what can only be

described as a bucket of Splenda a day and I'm still perfectly normal. ;-)

Seriously, I don't buy the individual packets because I never use less than like

5 tablespoons at a time. I buy the big box with the spout on it.

Splenda

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone has heard or knows if there's a danger in

eating too much Splenda. As some of you know, I've discovered this

yummy cottage cheese thing where I take FF Cottage Cheese, mix it

with blueberries, oats and almonds...well I eat that at least a

couple times a day and I use about 4 packets of Splenda each time.

Does Splenda cause any unwanted effects?

Thanks, I will gleefully keep using copius amounts!!!!

We go to Sam's and get boxes of Splenda with 750 packets. My son

dumps five packs on bowl of Special K. I also believe that Diet Rite

is the best tasting cola drink because it is sweetened with it.

Just be advised that there is a pretty significant difference between

the packets and the stuff that 's pouring out of a box.

The stuff in the packets is straight up Splenda. The stuff in the box

is GRANULAR Splenda. It's been bulked up with some filler-type

ingredients so that it measures the same (in terms of volume) as sugar.

It is much less concentrated.

If I used the stuff in the box, I'd be consuming ENORMOUS amounts.

Instead, I just consume a lot of packets. At Costco, the packets are

definitely a better buy than the granular stuff.

Thanks Seattle Lady, I did notice the difference and I've been

In terms of the safety issue with Splenda, it's the only artificial

sweetener that the Center for Science in the Public Interest

recommends. THey have a great website that I go to fairly frequently.

Google CSPInet. They have great, balanced nutritional info.

I have a diabetic sister in law that uses splenda for everything, and we bake with it as well. The taste is so close to sugar. I don't give my 9 year old AS son splenda though ... I think natural stuff is better for him in the long run anyway. He is attending day camp right now and swimming twice a day. That boy has lost 20 lbs just by doing that & he's getting a nice tan taboot! Lucky guy! :)As for ants ... here's our remedy ... Try corn meal for ants, big or small. Just put a little bit in the kitchen corners or anywhere you see them. Within a week, they disappear. Apparently, they carry it back to the nest and it wipes it out.Equal works too ... I never believed it, but it wiped out the entire fire ant hill a friend had! Never been back! Amazing what little things work. My feeling though was this at the time: if that's what Equal can do to ants, WHAT in the heck is it

doing to MY body!? I stopped using it!Have a great day everyone!Meshel :)

Meshel,

You're so right what does it do to your body? Alot

more than anyone realizes. Stopping the use of it is

the best thing you can do.

I was very sick 2 years ago. I was in adrenal

exhaustion and started to get better...to a point.

When I realized that my 23 year addiction to diet coke

had me dealing with aspartame/nutrasweet toxicity. I

stopped drinking the diet sodas 6 months ago. It took

me 3 months of horrible with drawls, headaches for no

reason etc. I'm doing better today.

Equal or Nutrasweet are the brand names for apartame.

Splenda is just as bad for you. If you have diabetes

try Stevia instead. It's 80 times sweeter than sugar

and is as natural as sweetner can come, and it doesn't

increase blood sugar so is safe for diabetics.

A person asked if splenda will work for kefir grains. It will not because it

is not sugar. Fermentation requires real sugar.

Remember to sign your posts. This saves me time.

You just answered my question regarding making Kefir water with Splenda.

Then here is the next question. If a person is diabetic and would like to drink

the Kefir water. How could they if it is made with real sugars?

I just started my father of 74 years of age God Bless him, on Kefir and he loves

it. He called me tonight and put in a request for more. I am taking him a 1/2

gallon tomorrow. He stated he no longer has to take any stool softners. He

stated it is adding his ablity to empty his bladder more often. I am not too

sure if that has much to do with the Kefir or it was just a good day for him.

I would like to keep his and my weight down and was considering of making the

Kefir water because of this reason.

Thank you,

The sugar is not for you, it is for the water grains. They use a lot of it

up. So you still have to be very careful giving it to sugar sensitive

people.

Some of the sugars are used up, but are all of them? Fermentation to

alcohol, for example, slows down or stops when the alcohol amount

reaches a certain strength--could the same thing be happening with

water kefir (with lactic acid instead of alcohol)? I don't know of an

accurate way to test whether it still contains sugar--unfortunately, I

can think of a bunch of inaccurate ways: spill it on your countertop,

let it dry, and testing whether it feels sticky... let it dry and burn

it, does it smell like burning sugar?... pour it on the ground with

ants nearby, do the ants eat it?

It may depend on the amount of sugar you put in--maybe if you put just

the right amount, it will all be used up in fermentation, but if you

put too much, I strongly suspect it won't be.

Sorry for my non-authoritative thoughts/advice,

Hi Ann,

Yes, but it's just another chemical additive that they try to make sound like

it's " natural " and there are people who are having adverse reactions from it as

well. It just hasn't been around long enough to have a documentary about it.

It's best to use natures food, like dates, raisins, unprocessed stevia herb (the

actual green herb) for sweetening and for the very best health, eat whole, ripe

fruit! Check out my free recipe videos at RawFoodRene.com or facebook page at
