Fresh whole milk and a higher milk to grains ratio, strain keifer in 24 hours or

before it starts to separate. Your grains should increase in size and number

every few days. One third to a half cup of grains should make a quart of kefir,

in 24 hours, depending on the temperature in the room. Oh yes, you should also

talk nicely to your grains and tell them you want them to grow.

Hi ,

I assume that you are talking about milk grains, right? I experimented with

different types of milk when I started with just 1 tiny teaspoons of grains. I

was eager to make enough kefir to feed 7 mouths then. But I found that milk type

is not the major determining factors, though raw milk is the best to promote

grain growth.

Here's what I did.

With every new batch I brewed daily, I returned 1/4 of strained kefir back into

the jar and added new milk. I did this for a couple of weeks until I brought the

kefir up to 2 quarts.

Now, I get 1 cup of extra grains every 3 days...and I have problem getting them

to stop making me offsprings, lol..

Hope that helps,

Shirl

Hello-

I have been making kefir for a short time and I would really like to know how to

promote growth of the grains so I can increase the amount of kefir I make. I was

thinking of splitting the grains and doing 2 separate batches, but I don't know

if I have enough grains. Is there anything that promotes grain growth? My grains

haven't seemed to grow a whole lot and I have been making it for a few months

now. Thanks for the help!

Hi Laurie,

I am from the tropical South East Asia. I don't get a lot of requests for grains

from my side of the world. I have been giving away grains for free, with free

email follow up sometimes in our language, I still left with lots of grains,

lol...
