Guest guest
Healthy active grains, you only need 1/4 to 1/2 cup. Tired, stored grains, i.e. refrigerated grains, 1-2 cups. And that's at room temperature. It will take all week in the refrigerator, putting the kefir grains further out of balance. Guest guest
Thanks, Marilyn. My grains were in the frig. I set them out this morning to " warm up " while I was at work. All total, I've probably got at least one cup so I will go that route and see how they do. -- April On Mon, Mar 24, 2008 at 7:46 AM, Marilyn Kefirlady <marilynjarz@...> wrote: > Healthy active grains, you only need 1/4 to 1/2 cup. Guest guest
Hi Marilyn. Just to let you know, I used 1 cup of kefir grains that had been stored in the frig with 2 quarts of cold milk. Within 24 hours at room temp, it started separating. I was surprised, thinking it would take longer. I had to put it in the frig this morning to keep it from separating out further until I could strain it tonight. My next question would be: What is the best way to strain? For my smaller 3-cup size batches, I just scoop out the grains with a slotted spoon. Can I just do the same with this size batch or is there an easier way? Thanks! -- April The Lotus rises from the mud and dirt Sweet Lotus Creations www.sweetlotuscreations.com Heartland Soapmakers Association www.heartlandsoapmakers.com On Mon, Mar 24, 2008 at 7:46 AM, Marilyn Kefirlady <marilynjarz@...> wrote: > Healthy active grains, you only need 1/4 to 1/2 cup. Guest guest
Hi April, What I do is stir well until the whole thing is homogenized. Then I pour the whole lot into my colander. The kefir falls through and the kefir grains stay in the strainer. Marilyn On Thu, Mar 27, 2008 at 5:45 PM, April McCart <sweetlotuscreations@...> wrote: > Hi Marilyn.
