Guest guest
Libby- This is a great reminder. Part of LL is to be relaxed and energized. We tend to get frantic about everything else in our life and forget we don't have to be frantic about breathing. Thanks for the reminder. P.S. I drink water through a straw. I hate water, so this really helps me get it down the old hatch. Guest guest
Libby, I think this is great advice. I think we all have to understand that know two bodies are the same. There are genetics, bone frame, different ages, medical conditions and lifestyle situations. I think there are some common things that we all can agree on such as eating healthy foods more than unhealthy foods and that we all need exercise. I think the best thing is to find a basic foundation of exercise and eating and stick with it. Switching around is so bad on your body and can lead to such frustration. Late the other night, Oprah did a show on women who were 50 and over and looked like they were around 30. They brought each one out and asked them breifly about their lifestyle. I found it interesting in that they all started out their day meditating (I consider LL to be meditating for me), they all drank lots of water, and they all included raw foods into their daily diet. What I really liked, that I was going to share with the group, was this one lady came out that was 64 (looked about 40) and Oprah asked her what she did. She said she meditated and Oprah asked how long. The lady said she was up to 1 1/2 hrs. everyday. Oprah got a little frowny because she said she could only do about 20 minutes. What I like was the lady said, " But Oprah, I haven't always done 1 1/2 hrs. I started out doing just a few minutes and worked my way up to what works for me and what I can fit into my life. " Then the lady said she had a Raw Food Restaurant and Oprah said how she's trying to eat raw foods but is having a hard time. Again, the lady pointed out that you can't start something full speed. You have to work your way up to things so that your mind and your body will accept them as a part of your life AND your mind and body will miss them when you don't give them these things. It really struck a cord with me about not trying to always do everything full speed. I thought this woman's advice was great. It told me that if I ever started meditating that I don't have to try to do it for a long period of time at first. I can work my way up and as my life begins to get less hectic over the years (like when my daughter is grown) I hope to have that kind of time. Just thought I'd share this with everyone because I truly believe that if you do too much of something too soon, you'll get burnt out and you won't be realistic into fitting it into your daily life. > Dear Gang, > I am going to step in to some old shoes here and talk about something > we discussed a LONG time ago on the list that may be helpful to some > (AND I should listen to myself!). > Number one: Lifelift is about NOT pounding: not pounding your body, > not pounding your eating, not pounding yourself emotionally. Guest guest
Dear Christi, I never thought about using a straw...actually since I have been gung ho about the water I have been preferring it even ordering it when we go out instead of iced tea...THAT's a switch! Be funny if you could get flavored straws, huh? One funny thing is I know what areas have " good " water...this one nursing home I see patients in has good water. Sometimes I stop there to fill my bottle even when I don't have anyone scheduled there if i am passing by...kinda hard to explain to their director... " oh just LOVE your water " . Hahaha and Pah, pah pah! Guest guest
Dear Texas Mom. Isn't that the truth??? We seem to be bent on just killing ourselves to look good! And burning ourselves out to boot. Today I have eaten and eaten! I have had a high running day though. I was up very early doing paperwork to turn the laptop over to another therapist, she came by at 7:45 AM so I took the next 45 minutes and did a run through on the house, then saw patients all over creation from 9 to 7:30 I did LL all through the day although I did eat more than I should at supper so after relaxing a bit I will clean up the kitchen and so maybe 10 more. Gonna hit the hay early tonight, though! I have been listening to VT tapes...I can only process one at a time and the first 2 still run together for me...but I think a really good concept I have been grasping is an offshoot of prosperity...I am becoming a healthier person so that I may do my work more effectively...and if I am healthy: in appearance and attitude then I can help generate that healthy attitude in my patients and, VOILA! They get better! I am " selfish " that way (smile!!!) Last year I was the therapist for this one agency with the best record of discharging patients with goals met ( I have a Kroger's gift certificate to PROOVE it! HAHAHA!) Love and pahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Guest guest
I've found that I really love to drink water but only room temperature water or cold water without ice. When it's real cold, it's just a turn off to me and I can't drink it as fast. When it's roomt temp, I can chug it down real quickly. I know the cold water is good to help burn calories because the ice water cools down your body and you burn calories warming it back up but I can't get too crazy about burning calories by doing something I don't like. > > > Dear Gang, > > > I am going to step in to some old shoes here and > > > talk about something > > > we discussed a LONG time ago on the list that may be > > > helpful to some > > > (AND I should listen to myself!). > > > Number one: Lifelift is about NOT pounding: not > > > pounding your body, > > > not pounding your eating, not pounding yourself > > > emotionally. Guest guest
I think the best thing we can learn is that we have to take steps to do something and keep making the steps forwards. I think of it like a doctor's career. They don't wake up one morning and say, " I want to be heart surgeon " and then get out of bed and perform surgery. There are steps they take to get there. We also have to know our limits. I personally really want to take up golf but I know that I cannot until my daughter is much much older for several reasons: Golf takes time and patience and with my life right now everything is rush rush so I would go nuts trying to analyze the slope of the course and wind conditions. Plus, it takes several hours to play 18 rounds--too much time away from my daughter. But I know that someday I will be able to do it. > > > Dear Gang, > > > I am going to step in to some old shoes here and talk about > > something > > > we discussed a LONG time ago on the list that may be helpful to > > some > > > (AND I should listen to myself!). > > > Number one: Lifelift is about NOT pounding: not pounding your > body, > > > not pounding your eating, not pounding yourself emotionally. Guest guest
Dear Texas Mom...sheesh! I almost wrote " taxes " ...sorrrrrry! I agree with you about the water temp. I fill my bottle from the chilled water in fountains wherever I go but the bottle sits in the car and gets room/car temperature...fortunately it isn't THAT hot here yet! I can drink it...squirt it on myself (ha! make a mess!), clean up when I splotch something on me...I kind of LIVE in my car! That is why if we were to ever " do " the LL family reunion I could be the bus driver...in my Lumina van loaded up with Pahers from the east...pahhhhing as we go, we could put out the Los Alamos fire!...especially if we take a swig from our water bott...okay, I'll stop! Guest guest
Dear TEXMOM, wow! you are one analytical woman. I had to play in a golf scramble once with my boss. I had never played and I practiced for weeks and weeks. I could step up and drive that ball............about 10 feet! BUT my putts (putz) were pretty good and our group played off of my putts and won for fewest putts! However....I have not played since!!! Love and Pahhhhhhhhhhhhh!
