Guest guest
Patti: Reading your post was like deja vu (spelling?). For many, many years I have refused to wear a bathing suit until I lost this weight and got my figure back--I think I was a size 10 then. If I only knew what laid ahead! Karma and NS recommended reading "Breaking Out of Food Jail" which I read and it made sense. They also recommended "When Women Stop Hating Their Bodies" which I'm reading now. Rashelle is absolutely right in her post that we need to love ourselves first. I'm not quite there yet but hopefully someday. I was a size 8 all through school, progressing to a 10 in my twenties and thirties. As far back as I can remember, I have hated various parts of my body and kept them covered. I have a very bad habit of looking in the mirror and criticizing each minute detail. Reading everyone's posts and knowing I am not alone in this is more helpful than anyone could imagine. I thank you all for sharing-- weight and image mannagement Hi Group, I would like to address some of the posts with one post. Hopefully Ican be clear and concise. First of all, welcome and Angel andcongratulations to you, W., what a great post and inspiration! I think Cecil, Jo and Michele said a lot of good things regarding weightloss, and how we see ourselves. They stressed the necessity of selflove.I have thought, like Jo, that it is really sad that so many of us focus sostrongly on what we look like in relationship to an ideal. I really had topause when Angel said how much she hated being a size 12. Boy that was me20 years ago! I sure wish I could get back to a comfortable size 12 now. After 20 years of alternating dieting and bingeing I am coming down from asize 18. I look back at pictures of myself as a young mother and wonder whyI wasn't pleased as punch at how I looked. I regret all the time I spenthating how I looked and obsessing about how wonderful life would be if Iwere skinny. Many on this list have liked a specific non dieting book (I can'tremember the name right now). I would like to add another to the list. TheSolution: Never Diet Again, by Laurel Mellin. This book focuses on sixcures for weight problems. They are: strong nurturing, effective limits, body pride, good health, balanced eating and mastery living. She offersaids to working her program through her website: www.weightsolution.com Iam familiar with many approaches to weight management and this is really agood program. The problem for me has been losing my focus and not working astrong program. The Victory Theory and LL has changed that for me. Guest guest
, I thought to help you on positive thinking, I would point out good points I saw from your message and add my .02 worth too. First, you are ONLY a size 10---not size 100. Your old size 8 is not far off, it's only one size. This is great news. One of the things I realized that was a big mistake for me was looking in the mirror without any clothes on. I honestly don't think many people look that good without anything on unless there is some good airbrushing. Try wearing something when you start looking in the mirror at your progress. I use to monitor it wearing my bra and panties but you know now, I monitor it in a pair of jeans and a short sleeve shirt. I don't feel as pressured to be looking for something with the jeans and shirt on. Besides, this is how people see me all day long. I don't run around in my undies all day. As far as swimsuits, there are several one piece suits out now that will shave a size off of your figure so see you'd be your old size 8 again. I know Bloomingdales has some and you can check swimsuit shops and department stores. > Patti: > > Reading your post was like deja vu (spelling?). Guest guest
Thanks for such a nice message Rashelle. I just sometimes feel like when I read some of these emails, I can hear the frustration and sometimes desparation in the messages. It's just so self- destructive. I think the best thing about this board is that people actually hear from you and know that you care. You are not just selling a product, you are putting yourself behind it. Not to sound odd but, you know, I wish the best for me too because I'm special!!! > Your messages are always so filled with wisdom and good information. Guest guest
You deserve to be thanked for the time you are willing to give to help nurture and support others. It is not something you have to do. You do it because you care about how others feel. It is a beautiful gift to give of yourself. Nothing could be more precious. And nothing could make me happier than to hear you say you wish the best for yourself because you are special. You are right, you are! Each one of our precious members on this list is special too. We all deserve to have our dreams come true. If we could all eliminate that old absurd programming that tells us we should not think we are beautiful, "Why is it ok to think someone else is beautiful and not think that highly of yourself?" It is a common thing to focus only on our flaws instead of our strengths and our beauty, inner and outer. Often we think we are not worthy of our wishes and dreams because we are not perfect. I consider all the mistakes I have made in my life as experience for growth, and I wish that somehow everyone else could know that about themselves. It is our imperfections that make us special, unique. So much of our self image is based on visions we have been fed by the media. Visions that are not real. As you said before, those visions have been airbrushed to imitate what they want us to think of as perfection. When I was a child I was crippled and my legs were really ugly to look at. I decided if I would focus love to my legs and keep saying "I love my legs, I love my legs" that they would love me back and become strong and beautiful. After combining that message with the action of working my legs with exercise, I really do love my legs now. Sometimes I just look in the mirror at them and say, Wow, Yes, I really do love my legs. Basically what I did was love my legs into being what I really wanted them to be. Think how your body is responding to you if you hate it, or are ashamed of it. Love it, love it, love it! It is the only body you will get, so be as good as you can to it. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your positive attitude. I feel certain that you are sending some very important messages out to many who need to hear that kind of support. Thank you, again. Guest guest
Dear Your post really underscores the reality how relative beauty is, depending on the eye of the beholder. Guest guest
Thanks for your note. I do need to clarify that I was a 10 in my thirties, I am now a 14/16 at the end of my forties! You have a great suggestion that I not look in the mirror unless I have something on--it just might work!
