First, I'd like to say my hello's to and Angel--welcome!

You'll be very happy you found this list! I am :)

Just a few thoughts on losing weight, etc. I've been seeing some

posts about " desperate to lose " , " depressed " , " everyone else is

thinner " . A few years ago I heard Dr Christiane Northrup, a

holistic OB/GYN speak at a womens' conference. She said the majority

of women, when asked about a great wish or desire that they had, one

of the first things mentioned would be that they wanted to lose

weight. She commented on how sad that was, that as women, our

fondest wish would be to have " less of ourselves " available to the

world--kind of crazy that our perceived value is directly inverted in

relation to our size.

Of course the pressure is everywhere. I was truly shocked this

afternoon, as I browsed the sale ads. In the flyer from Sears

(probably available nationally-take a look) on page 21, there are

three young models that are SO THIN if you'd put distended bellies on

them, they'd become an ad for " Save the Children " . Why is it that

we're accepting this as " the norm " when for most of us, this look

would only be achieved by starvation or illness?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for looking and feeling the best we can,

but let's lighten up on ourselves and try to accept that we're ok as

we are. Let's strive for healthy, energetic, happy to be alive

FIRST....dress our best at the SIZE WE ARE NOW--don't wait for

another five or ten pounds or for a lower dress size. Once we feel

better about ourselves, I can't help but think that Lifelift will

help to " fine tune " that positive self image-inside and out!

Instead of 'wishing ourselves away " , let's focus on becoming

CONCENTRATED--it's more powerful, don't you think? But just remember,

if something is too concentrated it usually can't be enjoyed unless

diluted some--ever try concentrated lemonade? (actually that reminds

me of a funny story--when we were first married, an insurance agent

came to our apartment to try to sell us some policies. It was hot,

and my husband decided to make some lemonade. Not being too handy in

the kitchen, he didn't read the instructions, and assumed it should

be made with the same proportions of water as juice concentrate.

This particular lemonade, however, needed much more water in it. For

some reason, neither of us had the lemonade, but we couldn't figure

out why the agent left hers pretty much untouched until we tasted it

later-whew! sour!!!

Have an excellent evening, ladies! " Diluted " or not, you're all very

sweet!

Jo,

What an excellent post. We all strive to be thinner, but forget that we first need to love ourselves for who we are and what we do. Thanks for bringing us all back in to focus. Once we remember that, we can move on from there. Only we, as individuals, can determine what is best for us. We can't always rely on every else's information. We must find what works best for this specific body, and when you find it, use it. Keep up the good work, Jo.

Jo,

You are just wonderful. This message is right on. It is not until we learn to accept and love ourselves just as we are that we can improve and become the best we can be.

The distorted images that are presented to us by the media can be lethal to our self esteem, if we let them. It is vital that we take a closer look at what we are being fed emotionally, daily by the advertisers. One thing to remember is that the reason they first started using ultra thin models is because they were trying to come close to what the clothes would look like on a clothes hanger. They figured if they looked good on these ultra skinny models they would look good on anyone. Now the media has taken it to crazy places and led us to believe that this is the truest form of beauty. What they have done is caused an epidemic of emotionally sick girls and women with eating disorders trying to look like the coat hanger. Today is a very good day to get real with yourself. Pull out a coat hanger and take a good look. Is that what you really want to look like? I doubt it. I happen to know for certain that many who have presented themselves as being ultra thin, claiming to have reached that goal by using the method they are trying to sell you, have had absurd surgeries and other destructive things done to look like that. Is this healthy, natural or even beautiful?

You are beautiful as you are, this minute! You are lovable as you are, this minute! You are worthy of having all you desire, right now, this minute!

When you accept these statements as the truth and hold them to your heart, you will then be able to reach for the best things for yourselves, you will then be able to grasp them, and you will then be able to keep them permanently.

If I could have one wish fulfilled today, it would be that you would take these truths to be yours, right now. You would reach out and take what was meant to be yours, health and happiness. You are worthy to be healthy, happy, prosperous and loved.

Yes, that means YOU! There are no exceptions to this. You all deserve to be happy. You don't have to be perfect to deserve any of these things. It was all implanted into you when you were born. It is now up to you to reach inside and access all your wonderful gifts.

Love,

Rashelle

Jo, I think it's also important to note that most men don't like the

waif look on women. My husband has said numerous times how these

kinds of women look like boys. I won't lie, I think most men prefer

thin women but they like the hips, curves and of course, breasts. I

think women aspire to be this waif look because they think men would

like it but in sum, I truly don't think men do.

Jo and Rashelle,

I agree with all of this. For several years now I have been waging

my own private war against body image. I love to give compliments

to people, but I never say "Wow you look great have you lost weight"

I think that sends the wrong message. It seems to say you only

look good if you are thin. Instead I like to say things like "You

look extra beautiful today." or "You must be happy, you really have

a glow about you today." I also like to compliment the person inside

rather than the outside appearance. I always make a point of telling

someone if anyone else says anything nice about them. So often we

say nice things about people to others but never say it to that person.

Nice things are the only kind of gossip I will participate in.

Have a great day everyone.
