Another good social story would be detailing how Danny can access the great

out of doors in an appropiate manner.

e.g.

Danny is in his house but wants to go outside. When Danny is outside he

knows there are things such as traffic which can cause him to get hurt.

Danny knows he cannot be outside alone. Danny asks a big person (a family

member or adult) if they will go outside with him. Sometimes the big person

is busy and cannot take Danny outside. Many times when Danny asks a big

person to go outside with him they say yes and take Danny outside.

's typical preschool has decided that she needs some " visual "

reminders so that she doens't try and escape from the playground

(Sigh). They have so great about having here there, making necessary

modification, providing an aide in her classroom (at no cost to us!),

etc..... I feel bad when they need to do more. But, they printed up

some big stop signs and had them laminated, and they are placing them on

the playground gates (last year she wasn't tall enough to push the

safety bar open, but well, what a difference a summer makes!). There is

one gate that leads to some stairs, and that is a particular problem....

she loves going up the stairs (but at least they know where her

persistance is!). So, the stop signs went up yesterday.... we'll see

how she responds to the visual cues.

On the home front, has gotten ever more determined to leave

and go visit with the neighbors. Three times in the last two weeks she

has escaped and was found at their house (another sigh). I guess I am

thankful that I know where to look first (in my panic of discovering her

gone), but she just goes in their screen door (twice unnoticed by

anyone!) and was playing the someone's bedroom!!!!!!! They are nice

people, with 5 kids, so they are not easily flustered finding another

child playing in their house. But even they were surprised to find her

playing in their bed (pretending to have a sleepover, what else!) But

what happens when they are not home? Where will she go? It's making me

crazy, and I too, dream of duct tape :-) She can undo the deadbolt, so

I need to install another one higher up. My oldest daughter has

received a couple scary lectures about what could happen when she leaves

the front gate unlocked (and I hate to put that much burden on her, but

it's a fact...... that gate can NEVER NEVER NEVER be left unlocked, even

if you have your scooter in your hand!). We looked into an automatic

open/closing thing for the gate (to make sure it didn't accidentally get

left open), but it would be thousands of dollars, and as my DH pointed

out, she is already halfway to climbing over it, so closed and locked

will only do us for a little longer anyway.

If you have barbed wire and electric fence around your house, what do

you think the neighborhood will think? LOL

I'm just really grateful that the cars were hurt instead of Danny.

!!!!!! You are supposed to be sympathizing with my heavy school

work load--not rubbing it in that you are on sabbatical and I'm not. I

haven't heard the " s " word mentioned in our school system for years.

Maybe we don't even have the option any more.

I haven't dreamed about duct tape, but I sure have thought of it when

fully awake! Whenever we travel, one of the older kids usually

volunteers to sleep on the floor in front of the motel door.

That would work great-you could put the sheet on the wall, and stick the

kids in front of the tele and you would always know where he was :)

LOL Kris... wait until she figures out how to climb out of the crib!

Judi

LOL! I think this is the main reason I haven't put Sierra in a toddler bed

yet. As long as she's in her crib, she can't get out and into trouble.
