Hi Aimee,

Often there is a compensatory curve that the docs don't always mention because it's not the structural curve. You probably didn't progress 2 degrees and are just experiencing a stand-still in your casting.... we hit the wall several times in the process. Our doc would get Noelle down to 0 in cast from about cast number 2 or 3, but her out of cast numbers were much higher. It took us a year and a half to get a brace, but we did get there.... Big hugs... I know it's frustrating!- Noelle's mommy, 3 years oldRochester NYCasted 8 times for 1 1/2 years and in first brace!reflux, mild plagiocephaly, mild torticollos, hypotonia, ligament laxity, suspected Ehler's Danlos III

Thanks Steph,

We are at the year mark and are getting cast 7 next week. I am frustrated. Her

back looks funny to me. I feel like we are standing still big time. Hope to

follow in Noelle's footsteps!

Aimee,

Truthfully I don't know.... I sometimes see things about Noelle that I question as well. Believe it or not, it can be even more frustrating in the brace because every time you take it off you scrutinize the body like a hawk! It's so frustrating! i will be thinking of you and wishing you lots of luck.... So I know I have been a little concerned with Emma's appearance in this cast. This past week or so I noticed her left shoulder a little elevated and "wished" it away so to speak. I called Shriners today and they want to see her tomorow. SHe is due to get this cast off next Friday so I am driving here there tomorrow by myself which should be inmteresting she is so not a good traveler. I am hoping it is fine. My tummy is nervous and of course I am so mad I did not call last week when I noticed it. Dont know if she is ok. I keep thinking back to her last cast removal and the " bump" I notice on her left spine that the doc said is not in the xray and prob was there before ( of which I disagree with). not sure what is going on. Supposedly she was at 0 in her cast, so i question why the shoulder appearance. COuld the cast not be holding her or maybe did it shift? AimeeEmma 23 months old in 7th cast

Adhd and autism tend to run in families.  But many families with

kids with either/both also have kids with neither.  The risk for

autism seems to be lower in females.  But, even if someone could

give you accurate statisitcs on the % chance that your new daughter

might have autism, you would still have to wait and see what

happens.  Statistics only really help with large populations, not

with working out what will happen to individuals.  I know that's not

a lot of help, and we were also anxious whether our daughter would

share her brother's characteristics.  It turned out she didn't.

Rather, she brought her own idiosyncracies and challenges with her.

Just on that, does anyone know how to get a teenage girl to be

completely honest?  Or even to communicate?

Boys are 4 times more likely than girls to be on the spectrum. They don't know why this is happening. Also, there appears to be a genetic component. But no real answers which is why so many of us are frustrated...genetics plus environment and/or vaccines?? The experts don't agree. There is no "test" for ASD. You will have to wait and see how your baby progresses. Even then, most ped doctors are not good at diagnosing ASD...for the most part it is left up to the parents to diagnose and bring to the attention of health care providers and schools. I hate to say this but i have five children:

1. Asperger's dyslexia and ADHD

2. Asperger's and ADD

3. Dyslexia and ? Asperger's ( waiting full diagnosis.

4. two "A typcial " children.

all the Aspies are boys.... the Atypics are one boy and one girl.

I feel strongly there is a genetic link.

other members of my childrens relatives on their fathers side have brain issues. too.

my best advice enjoy the little one looking at every move as a marker or not for autism will rob you of a wonderful time with this baby. as she gets older if she is missing milestones bring them up to your dr

every child is different every child with autism is different some meet milestones late some meet them early some love to be held and cuddles some want hands off just like every other child

Hi Kim,

There is a possibility that your daughter may be on the spectrum, but also a

possibility that she won't. I have four children - 1 girl and 3 boys. My oldest

boy is ADHD and my youngest is Aspie. I do see a couple of aspects in my

daughter, but not even enough to think that she may be on the spectrum, she just

has some little quirks and my middle son is just fine. Having said that, my

sister has a son who is Aspie and a daughter (younger) who does not. On my

mother's side, there are five children in the same generation that have been

diagnosed this year. There are also many siblings amongst them that are not on

the spectrum. There is a genetic link, but that doesn't mean that everyone will

have it.

I agree that you should just enjoy your daughter and not worry about that right

now. You will know as she grows and develops if there are problems or not and by

focusing on it now while she is so young will rob you of some beautiful time

together.

, I know how hard it is to get teenagers to communicate and be honest about

stuff. All I can say is keep her accountable. Be up front with what you expect

but with love and respect and always keep the door of communication open. If she

knows that you are ready and willing to listen to her, she will be more inclined

to talk. Especially if you keep an interest in her life. Spending time with her

is really important, so maybe take some time out each week if you can to do

something that she is wanting to do together.

Just my thoughts.

Cheers,

Judy

eye so i figured i would comment on it i have 3 boys and my middle son has been

diagnosed MRDD and probably autistic now with him i had him vacinated when i was

suposed to and all and im not sure if that has anything to do with the issuses

he has going on but i do know that my youngest son who thanks to allergies wasnt

given his vacinations on time and he was a slow talker but now that hes in

pre-school hes came out of his shell and is talking alot now and im not sure if

that had anything to do with it but if you can hold off on getting your child

vacinated then by all means do it!

Hi Kim, do not touch the vaccines until your baby is at least 2 y.o. -> but personally, I would not vaccinate at all. Try to avoid toxins, feed your baby organic food as much as you can, try to breastfeed as long as you can ... etc.

I am curious about vaccinations.......my daughter started having seizures at 4 months old, and the month leading up to it, she screamed non stop, and this was after her vaccinations. I am researching as much as I can, and I keep reading that they don't put Thermosal in vaccines anymore??? Could someone explain the vaccines and what exactly it is in them that could trigger neurological problems?? I am in process of arguing with my inlaw, who is a nurse, about vaccines.....and I am trying to gather as much info as possible to back my side up!

Thanks!!

As I read these posts I am more scared than ever. I know everyone is here to help though. I am just at a loss as to how to proceed. I am doing much better and rarely have any symptoms anymore since the cold weather began. I still have an occasional itch, crawl or pin prick but for the most part everything is getting better. My dog still shakes his head though. I have not done any spraying or extra cleaning of the house other than my regular cleaning. I have an appt. to a LLMD in the next couple weeks. Is that going to be enough? In the beginning, I was not the only one to have symptoms. My kids both had bites and rashes/allergic reactions a week after I did. The only difference is that I had the crawling every night for 3 straight months. I could feel "things" getting in my eyes, nose, ears, and

"other places." I am terrified of that returning. My husband has never had any problems so therefore doesn't really understand.

When you treat the internal infections things do resolve because the bugs will no longer be attracted to you. I know it is scary, I have not had them for over a year but I still get nervous when I am reminded of all I went through. I get scared sometimes too. I'm currently kinda nervous about molds... I don't have the money to have house tested right now; but I think there is a real relationship to mold, maybe those that are just now being identified, not regular mold. In fact, I have a belief that the mold / fungal issue is directly related to birdmites or springtails and that is why these things are attracted to us. If we go into a moldy environment, or a place where we have even spread the mold, we react. I was wondering why my feet continue to be the last place where I get sensations... I walk barefoot in the house sometimes, I don't spray my feet any more or shoes, I wear the same shoes over and over again (although I wash my tennies) - I think it is because of some type of mold still present here. From: "Aandraya" <aandraya@...>bird mites Sent: Friday, November 18, 2011 10:22:26 AMSubject: Re: scared

When you treat the internal infections things do resolve because the bugs will no longer be attracted to you. I know it is scary, I have not had them for over a year but I still get nervous when I am reminded of all I went through. But I am doing really well, one dY at a time.AandrayaOn Nov 18, 2011, at 8:48 AM, Linds J <lj_mom11@...> wrote:

Yes, I was affected all over. I never saw birdmites so no way of knowing at this point however I did see collembola and little lint balls on all fabric surfaces that came near me amongst other things in the air. I haven't vaccumed or cleaned for months, I don't have the energy as I am still in recovery. AandrayaOn Nov 18, 2011, at 1:14 PM, Linds J <lj_mom11@...> wrote:
