Guest guest
I didn't throw everything out. The things I wanted to keep I put inside plastic garbage bags in moving boxes, with a little dry borox and baking soda in the bottom of the bag, and threw a mothball in for good measure. Then I twist tied it, taped up the boxes and put them in a rented storage unit. After about 6 months I was able to retreive some things I needed without it affecting me. Then after a year I got everything out without a problem. Guest guest
No, we didn't throw everything out. We kept important papers, threw out all magazines - we have a large file cabinet and we didn't go into that at all; we kept all photos which were in boxes anyway. Threw out 2 sofas, all carpets and one Persian style rug, lots of smaller rugs, all bedding, two new beds went. We filled two U-hauls and took it to the dump. It was terrible because we have lots of stairs. From: "whatstheuse2" <terelynjon@...>bird mites Sent: Saturday, September 24, 2011 4:20:40 PMSubject: How do you deal with throwing everything out? Guest guest
I have to say I think that Aandraya is correct here. Some of it can be saved and I regret that we tossed some things... I don't have bites from clothing or sofa or fabrics any more; why? Because I've treated with lots of stuff, antibiotics, antiparasitics, antifungals, and still doing it. If you can bag it up for a few years and put it in a place that is non-buggy that would help, but in the meantime, if you haven't done it, get a LLMD and see what he/she wants you to start with. Maybe you won't have Lyme, but you may have co-infections which are just as serious as Lyme. The word co-infections make it sound like they are not as serious as Lyme, which is just not true. Those co-infections can be just as serious as Lyme and life threatening. Don't mean to scare you. And birdmites can carry some of these infections. said that we all have different combinations of things, some have simple mites, others have many multiple infections, some pre-existing.From: "Aandraya" <aandraya@...>bird mites Sent: Saturday, September 24, 2011 4:32:15 PMSubject: Re: How do you deal with throwing everything out? Guest guest
I threw out everything including my mac computer. I have lived with a blow up mattress and a chair for over a year. Still don't want to buy furniture until I have no fear that anything will come back. That means months and months of not a single sign. The handful of things I kept, I put in storage. After a year, found them covered in fungus. Had to clean them with Lysol 3 times and sprayed what I could, including pictures, with polyurethane 3 times. Still, they got fungus back into my non infected car and reinfected it. Still treating it every week end to be sure. I've come to love the freedom of space in my apartment. I only have that which I need. My dinning room area contains 4 shelves with soap making equipment and herbs. I may turn my living area into a sewing and pottery making center. It helps you to look at your space in new ways. Love and light, From: whatstheuse2 <terelynjon@...>Subject: How do you deal with throwing everything out?bird mites@... Guest guest
I did not throw out a single thing. I refused to, because when the BM infestation happened, we had just moved into our new property and almost everything in it was brand new. Guest guest
I threw out some books yesterday. I brought one book into my office and later it just started feeling like some mites or whatever they are were acting up, so I threw that out too. If something feels infested, I probably will eventually throw it out unless it is an important paper. Sometimes I feel like my life will never be the same again or that I will probably die from the stress of this. I hope things get better. You never know how great your life is until BM are in the picture. I'm sorry I'm depressed. Guest guest
You never have to apologize for being depressed or having any kind of mood. I know, for me, when I feel guilty about a feeling, I hang onto it longer! It does feel that way you described sometimes. It can and does get better. We are living proof of that; so many other, many who do not post often any longer, but even those that do post, like Aggi or Cecilia, they are 99% and 98% better. Although I still have symptoms, they are no longer bird mites, but we suffered for 2 years steadily with those. Your situation will get better, I promise you. For those of us who have been through this nightmare we will not forgot what it was like. Once we realized what was happening we acted aggressively. We got a LLMD which made a huge difference for us.From: terelynjon@...To: bird mites Sent: Sunday, September 25, 2011 4:00:11 PMSubject: Re: Re: How do you deal with throwing everything out? Guest guest
Well, I sprayed the car with Bifen at first. That didn't seem to do the whole job. So that's when I started spraying with Lysol. I think the bifen killed the bugs but the fungus isn't touched by it. The eggs in the fungus made it through that attack so I needed to get the bugs and the fungus. One spraying of the bifen followed by weekly sprayings of Lysol and water in the garden sprayer. The turning point occured when I pinned the floor mats to the wall at the car wash and soaked them in the Lysol mixture, washed the car, and then returned and power blasted the mats clean. I sprayed the inside of the car with the Lysol and put the mats back in after they were some what dry. No problem after that until several months later when I go t storage things out. Have been following the foot prints of last time. Seems to take 6 weeks to get things back to normal.
