Guest guest
When I was battling the bugs - I threw away my regular vacuum and bought a new non-infested one only to pick up more bugs and infect the new vacuum, threw that one away, then I bought a $400 vacuum and stupidly did the same thing, picked up mites and did the same thing, so whatever good the vacuuming done, it was still spreading more mites (even though my carpeting was full of Earth D). I think you would never be able to remove every single mite from a vacuum - just continue to spread it. Hi, Last June I ripped out all of my carpet - 2 bedrooms, hallway, LR, DR by myself (I'm single). The glue that was used to glue the carpet down is still there (looks about 2-3 feet wide by the length of the room) and the mites are in the glue. I first used a chemical to remove the glue, but it was very toxic and extremely slow scraping it off, so I quit that for a while. I'm thinking of renting a floor sander and sand away the glue now. Has anyone tried that? Also, I have concrete floors and I have been barefoot all summer. It seems whatever type of mites these are they like plastic, so I keep a pair of flip flops outside and spray them with Bayer Advanced Pest Control. I wear socks at night and have been sleeping on my sofa which I also spray with the same Bayer every evening. I had used a vacuum last June that did not have a bag, so took it outside and put it in my shed, brought it back in the house and the problem was so bad that I tried to throw it away, but my mother has it now. I have a vacuum that has a cup in my shed and I use that sometimes. But it seems that everything that touches my floor is infested sooner or later. All my shoes are in a bag in my closet in my bedroom which is the worst room in my condo b/c I have done less spraying and Swiffer mopping in there I guess. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi all For vacuum I use a wet vac & suck up dry borax when done uing it & pour bleach in it & let it run out side for a while, then spray Arm & Hammer Powdered Laundry Detergent 1 cup per gal o water all over it & into the filter , it stays bugless. A tri- jet fogger worked best to get them out of my house using 1 cup borax 1 cup windex , 1 cup epsom 1 gal o hot hot water & stir in the borax for 15 seconds God bless you , Bill On Sat Aug 27th, 2011 2:38 PM EDT Doris Kennedy wrote: >When I was battling the bugs - I threw away my regular vacuum and bought a new non-infested one only to pick up more bugs and infect the new vacuum, threw that one away, then I bought a $400 vacuum and stupidly did the same thing, picked up mites and did the same thing, so whatever good the vacuuming done, it was still spreading more mites (even though my carpeting was full of Earth D). > >I think you would never be able to remove every single mite from a vacuum - just continue to spread it. > >From: whatstheuse2 <terelynjon@...> >bird mites >Sent: Saturday, August 27, 2011 12:49 PM >Subject: What to do with bare floors? > > > >Hi, Last June I ripped out all of my carpet - 2 bedrooms, hallway, LR, DR by myself (I'm single). Guest guest
Oh wow Doris. I thought I was bad with buying vacuums... I went through several too. I vacuumed up DE with one and, of course, that broke down. They don't do well with fine dust like DE. I'm not sure DE does that well killing mites either, although I think it helps. From: "Doris Kennedy" <kean2465@...>bird mites Sent: Saturday, August 27, 2011 11:38:09 AMSubject: Re: I threw away 3 vacuums b4 I surrendered When I was battling the bugs - I threw away my regular vacuum and bought a new non-infested one only to pick up more bugs and infect the new vacuum, threw that one away, then I bought a $400 vacuum and stupidly did the same thing, picked up mites and did the same thing, so whatever good the vacuuming done, it was still spreading more mites (even though my carpeting was full of Earth D). Guest guest
I use a rug cleaner. When I am done, I put it in the bathtub and let it soak in about 1 inch of lysol and water over night. Then I add clean water, turn it on and let it spin the stuff off. I lay it on its back on the bathroom floor to dry and to inspeck how clean it is. When dry enough, I put it on the balcony and let it dry for a few hours. I have a rubber door mat in my storing closet that I set it on when not in use. I have a hand held vacuum that I use in the car and for sides and corners in the apartment. I take it apart and clean it often.
