Hi Steph

My kids had slapcheek. It wasn't really a rash with them, more like big red patches. It lasted 3 or 4 days. They were very perky! Apparently it is contagious before you get the red patches. You're not chelating yet are you or doing lipo GSH? Obviously the pollen count is really high at present but you would get sneezing with that! You could try Benadyrl Allergy and see if that helps.

Hope you suss it out, so many things cause rashes.

Hello, hope someone might help.Yesterday my son was sent home from school with a rash on his cheeks, arms, legs, chest, tummy, back and esp. bad on his bottom and hips. His teacher thought it was chicken pox but he has already had it. He is not scratching, has no fever or other symptoms. The rash looks like tiny raised red bumps. He did not ingest any unusual foods, and his skin did not come into contact with anything unusual. He is GF/CF, has epsom salt baths, and has been taking nystatin and culturelle for six weeks with nice improvements being made and no die off symptoms beyond a few red spots (larger) on his bottom. ANy ideas at all? My first thought was big yeast die off but would it not have occurred by now?Thanks in advance for any help.

She is with the NHS, at the Northern Health Centre here in Islington. I will keep talking to her about this stuff, maybe give her some of our stuff. I don't think she is especially influential but it could be part of getting the word out

BTW Mandi, I saw Alasdair's dietitian today. She attended the autism unravelled conference and is interested in the link between diet and autism - she even gave me a questionnaire to fill out on it. She is with the NHS, at the Northern Health Centre here in Islington. I will keep talking to her about this stuff, maybe give her some of our stuff. I don't think she is especially influential but it could be part of getting the word out.

Mandi, and other listmates,

I have seen several children in our neighbourhood over the past few days with 'slapcheek'.

I was wondering what measures one should take to boost immunity? Is it just Cambridge with a lot of cases, or is it widespread?

I wld NOT be surprised. The rash looks exactly the same, and is beginning to join up on his face today to give him an appearance of red cheeks, hence slapped cheek. He does not have a fever, although a few days ago he did have one of about 38C, which is when he would have been incubating this. I missed it initially because he usually has some bumps on his cheeks, which I think of as his yeast bumps, so when this rash thing started on his face I thought maybe he had simply had too much sun when they took them out to play at school. Then his speech therapist called and said she thought he had chicken pox. I was in the middle of Teddy's sens int session (don't we have weird lives?) but hightailed it over to get him and she was not exaggerating - it was all over his little bod by then. He has been fine "in himself," but I will ask his gp tomorrow if it is necessary to keep him home, or what.

Just another thing. In the meantime, he is doing well on the nystatin and culturelle. He is more "consolidated" on them, as in consolidating gains, having less of this back and forth, good days and bad days stuff, having more and more of his best sort of days. One sort of dubious benefit is that now he will challenge me on every little thing I tell him to do, and actually finding ways of expressing reluctance or a sense of mutinity. Have an appt with Dr Heard in 3 weeks to discuss Teddy's OAT and her food allergy tests and set up a course of treatment for her, and hopefully move Alasdair on to the next step, whether that be fish oils or magnesium/B6 or vitamin C to aid iron absorption. Here's one for you: Dr Heard wanted to try Alasdair on Vit C because his ferritin etc are so low and he says C helps the body absorb iron. BUT: the dietician today pounced on that, telling me that it would only aid absorption of non animal ources of iron as found in things like lentils and certain veggies. Basically she says a lack of vitamin C would not hinder your body from absorbing iron from things like steak or eggs, which if true means we still have a mystery on our hands - why would Alasdair have low ferritin when his diet is rich in animal sources of iron like beef, eggs, chicken and lamb? (Sorry all you veggies reading this).

Puzzling over this one. Could just be a general malabsorption issue.

Apparently low gastric acidity can influence mineral uptake. Gastric acidity can be boosted artificially, but don't know much more than this, and haven't done so with . We just give Vit C in ' mealtime drink. If it helps him absorb non animal sources of iron then at least it helps. had been low on iron (10 on ref range >10) for over a year until we moved the Vit C to mealtimes 6 weeks ago - his last blood test showed rising iron levels (now 12), although we've also started other things which may have had an effect (TD DMPS, TMG/Folic/MB12).

I would trust Dr Heard over a dietician any day - best to ask him in three weeks time.

Thank you so much for both your responses - my "gut" feeling (pun intended) is to go with Dr Heard's opinion, but it is definitely something I will discuss with him anyway, if only to have an answer for the next time I see the dietician.

Are you on the ARA list? You would be great there - has Mandi mentioned it? How old is ? What is his progression history? Alasdair is 5 in August, HFA and has made great progress on GF/CF corn soy potato free nasties free low phenol diet for over a year. We just started the next step - nystatin and culturelle, about 6 weeks ago. Good so far. He and his sister are extremely high in lead.

I joined the ARA list last night and gave a brief history as an intro.

is 7 months younger than Alasdair. We gave Nystatin too for 6 months last year and saw very good progress, Dr Buttar said to stop to get his kidney values down for TD DMPS. However, we have considered starting again at a low dose if his CDSA results come back with candida.

J was high in mercury, and probably still is. He showed high mercury on hair before chelation in Oct last year, but after 5 months of Lipo GSH, 3 weeks of 5 drops of TD DMPS, his challenge test mercury excretion has fallen to low levels?? Strange. Lead has seemingly not been an issue, but Aluminium has.

Is she wearing a necklace when this happen? If so...maybe nickle allergy??

Reagon would do the same thing on her arm when she started reacting to her medic

alert bracelet.

I have a question. Olivia, my 9 yr old, has done this two times now.

The first time, maybe 5 weeks ago, the school called and said she had

a " weird rash, come look at it " so I drove up there, and WOW, she had

an entire rash around her neck and chest. I tried some cream on it,

and it didnt help, it just got worse, its very itchy, and NO, its not

eczema, trust me, I know what that looks like LOL!! anyway, I took

her to the dr, and the dr thought that it looked like the rash that

sometimes presents before strep throat hits. So she ran a rapid strep

and it was neg. A few days later, she did get a sore throat and asthma

flare, so I took her back, thinking we mustve tested the strep too

soon. IT was neg again. Anyway, a round of antibiotics cleared the

throat infection(which was soon followed by the sinus infection she

still has), and the rash went away. She has been on keflex for 10

days, and then now ceftin for almost two weeks for that sinus

infection/sore throat. Today I went to school to pick up my kdg'er,

and she was at the door, waving me in. She has the EXACT same rash

again. Its all over her neck, and creeping down her back. the itch is

making her nuts. cream doesnt help, nor antihistamines. Now I am

thinking backwards and remembering she has had a couple of other

rashes similar over her life, but awhile ago.

Anyway, where this was going, was the ID dr had asked at the appt if

any of my kids ever had any weird rashes that were never figured

out(not eczema, not allergic reaction, etc) and I said no, b/c, I

guess I just didnt think of this.

the rash is flat, spotted/speckled, and spreads quick and is itchy. WE

have not changed any soaps, lotions, anything like that. Anyone have

does that sometimes...not that severe but has had rashes of

unknown origin...did it last night with his SCIG....but we thought maybe

the rate was too fast....

Let me know what you find out...what you are describing sounds like what

did last night...but his wasn't itchy but the color and patchiness

sounds the same.

I am new to the group (this is my first post). I am happy to have some bit of

information

to contribute. Last September our son got a rash under his armpit like you are

describing.

His pediatrician diagnosed it as Molluscum contagiosum (defined as a benign

viral disease

of the skin that is caused by an unclassified member of the poxvirus group).

You can

google it and read all about it. At the time, we had just begun chelation again

but viral

treatment was next on our list. The doctor told us there is no treatment for

molluscum

and you just have to let it run it's course, which could take up to a year or

more.

So from Sept to Jan. it actually got quite a bit worse, spead down his torso, a

little bit

down his arm. It didn't bother him at all, he did not itch it. I felt bad

because it looked

terrible and I was thankful it didn't break out in during the summer. In Jan.

when we

started valtrex, we noticed improvement right away. He still has a couple of

lingering

bumps, but it is 90% gone.

So, based on my limited newbie knowlege, I would look at it as a good sign, that

this

particular virus is being stirred up and flushed out. BTW, our son's viral panel

showed very

high numbers for chicken pox (and herpes).

Ironically, it erupted on our son right before we did his viral panels and right

before we

began valtrex. Our doctor

The response is from the POLLS section of this group. 44% of people who

responded to

valtrex see a rash the first week. 78% see one sometime over the course of the

therapy.

Which means that not all people see the rash. And the regression is a bit

counter-

intuitive. You may need to get through the regression, not avoid it. My son's

was 20 days.
