Depending on where you live, I would go with religious exemption. Every state is different. why do they care if he gets tetanus vaccine - he should be able to

just sign a waiver

tetanus is not contagious so he is not protecting others by getting

it, only himself

there are not exemptions from work situations- you can try it as

they might not know, but there is no law protecting him

I would be very firm. Present this package insert: (http://www.fda.gov/downloads/BiologicsBloodVaccines/Vaccines/ApprovedProducts/UCM164127.pdf) and point out first that the vaccine includes diphtheria. Are they also requiring protection from diphtheria? Is so, why not all the other vaccines that exist? He should not be required to get one thing that includes another entirely different substance.

Second, there is mercury in it. Everyone now knows the dangers of mercury. Ditto the formaldehyde in it.

Third, under "Precautions" it mentions the possibility of an acute anaphylactic reaction. Surely one has the right not to take that risk. See here: (http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/vis/downloads/vis-td-tdap.pdf) where it states that anyone who has had a severe allergy to a component of the vaccine should not get it. Find something to be allergic to (mercury??). It also states that a severe allergic reaction can occur after any vaccine.

Fourth, as Sheri mentioned, tetanus is not a communicable disease and no one's problem but his if he gets tetanus. Offer to sign a waiver relieving them of responsibility should this happen.
