Guest guest
When my son had it the nurse practitioner who heard him cough did not recognize the whoop. when we went back an older doc heard him and doc said, yup that's it. (his dad was cultured and it was positive)The child we think we got it from was seen by his doc who called it croup initially but after it persisted eventually recognized it as pertussis. I wonder if the fear of it as some horrid affliction lends to the mis-diagnosis or the lack or experience recognizing it? It's not so debilitating at all. Guest guest
We've already dealt with it ourselves, so, honestly I'm not fearful. I was just curious if anyone else had heard of this so called 'epidemic'. I agree that it very well could have been a mis-diagnosis...but, the doctor was very adamant that there was a epidemic going on. ~ > >Hi everyone, > > > >I live out of state, but, have friends in Ohio....recently one of my > >friends say they were diagnosed w/Whoopping Cough (she had a really > >bad cough for a long time....went to Dr and he gave her diagnosis > >based on the sound of the cough (no tests run) and the 'fact' that > >there's supposedly an outbreak (?)). > > > >Just wondering if anyone has heard anything? Guest guest
Claims of an epidemic have been going on for a couple of years now. I think the docs are told there is an epidemic, as is the media. So, people just believe what they hear without question. And it's part fear and I think part guesswork/laziness for a professional to give diagnoses without scientific proof. Guest guest
I also live in NE Ohio, just north of Akron. My two younger kids got it last year. I think they were the only ones " diagnosed " in the public school. It was a very interesting experience. Everyone also saw our older son in the same school with no symptoms. It was a Homeopathic Doc. who said yep that's it. But frankly it was very obvious once the whoop started. The day my daughter started the whoop she had been coughing for 2 weeks. I took her to the Dr. that day and the younger kid started in on his " regular " sounding cough that same day. She gave a 2-3 remedies and explained how and when I might need each one and how the course of recovery will go. If the kids were younger I'll say it would have been much more difficult. I was so fortunate that my aunt remembered that my mom had it as a young child and so my mom came right over to watch the kids while I ran errands during the day. The cough was harder on my daughter because we caught it later I think. She missed a lot of school. She was so self conscience about her throughing up when the cough was real bad that she actually supressed it somehow during school. The teachers didn't really see her real bad they said. The younger one (in kindergarden that year) would just walk over to the trash can with a tissue and spit into it the flem and through it away. His whoop was mostly while sleeping. He's a tough kid. The Principle did not know prior to this that the kids were not vaccinated. I came forth with everything before school started so they would understand that I had the paper work complete and that I wasn't being blatently neglegent or unprepared. She appreciated it. Our family was never openly discriminated against by anyone. I was honest about the whole thing with anyone who asked. The entire staff saw those kids survive the year with 5 star recovery. Both kids past a Gym physical at the end of the year with flying colors. I never heard of any other kids " getting it " . One of the neighbor kids had a rough cough before during and after our kids cough. But I never heard the whoop from her. I kept it to myself that I assumed that she was vaccinated and it was a weird version of it that didn't get diagnosed. She may or may not have immunity from it now. They've been fine this year as well. FYI Aside from the homeopathic remedies we used a lot of Sambucus for the immune system. I wouldn't call that an epidemic. Good Luck. Guest guest
I serve a large client base in NE Ohio, and indeed pertussis is alive and spreading again this year. We've dealt with it in our own family; it's uncomfortable, but not the end of the world. And by the way, it was my 13 yr old daughter, who was fully DTaP vax'd. We did delayed/select vax back then; when she got this a few years ago, that was the final straw in my anti-vaccination study. If I had a baby today I would not put ONE SINGLE vax in their precious little body! Oh, if I could only go back.... *sigh* Repeat after me, " when you know better, you do better " !! Guest guest
Actually had an experience recently on this same point, Mother in law told me there was no way my daughter could have whooping cough because it was almost completely eradicated and if she had it, it would very severe and terrible...I explained that this was not necessarily the case because you wouldn't have your child diagnosed unless it were severe, so there was a great likelihood that many many cases could go undiagnosed because they weren't severe. It's sad that there is this whole other side of any illness or health issue that just isn't being reported or discussed, so people are left believing that all of these illness's are guaranteed to be serious or severe. Guest guest
Keep in mind any doctor licensed after, let us say 1985, has never seen nor been trained to diagnose a true case of polio, pertussis, smallpox, measles, mumps, rubella, or even chicken pox. Most doctors assume all children are vaccinated and that the vaccines work the way they were told in medical school.Did you know that the last three cases of smallpox in the world are fully documented? Two of the three were fully vaccinated. One of the two vaccinated was fatal; that fatal one was in the UK, a doctor, working in a hospital, Janet . Let me know if my facts are right. Guest guest
That's interesting because I spoke to my own doctor who is a homeopath but also a licensed doctor of internal medicine, and he said something very similar. I was concerned that because vaccines don't present TRUE immunity, IF my daughter (who is unvaccinated) came down with these symptoms, that I may get them myself and possibly worse because I've been sensitized being vaccinated myself. His response was classic...He said, well first you'd have to find a case of TRUE measles, mumps, rubella etc. then you'd have to find a doctor that has ever SEEN a real case or even knew what it was when he saw it! Really sad state of affairs! Guest guest
True, but on the bright side, it's not just your daughter but anyone who could give you a disease, and that hasn't happened to you yet in how many years? You must be pretty healthy to have withstood it all this time (and we know it's not because the vaccines protected you!). Guest guest
That's a very good point. I never took my 11 yr-old in and I'm sure he had it last summer. It's funny, years ago, before these supposed epidemics, people were just as sick with whatever cough, bronchitis, pneumonias as now, including myself at one point. Couldn't shake it. Not one doctor ever hinted at whooping cough (which I don't think it was). It's only since our experts decided to sell another booster that all of a sudden there's a need for it. Guest guest
Ya know, when she started the symptoms i never thought whooping cough until two weeks later when the cough got worse and turned into that whooping sound... I had JUST gotten the next portion of the class i'm taking with Sherri and ironically it was on whooping cough. She developed a fever shortly after the whoop sounding cough plus an upset tummy. called her homeopath and problem solved. She does still have the residual cough early morning and late at night, but as the weeks go by it gets a little better. She's had this since Thanksgiving! I was THRILLED that there was a possibility this could be "whooping cough" because not only has she fought it off, but now she has lifetime immunity! Imagine being HAPPY when your child gets sick and overcomes it! :-) I had "whooping cough" as a baby right after my DTap vaccine. So bad I had a very difficult time breathing. Aside from chest x-rays the only thing they did for my mother was send her home with a cough suppressant. I was 2 and a half and that was very early 80's. No one even then thought to keep shooting me with MORE DTap vaccines! I've learned overtime that "experts" are experts because they have the money to pay for the title. They also have the money to lobby for more and more forced vaccinations... Guest guest
Very interesting, thanks! Check this out from the letter: "According to the National Network for Immunization Practices, it is estimated that 3 per 1000 children remain unvaccinated nationwide. (Click Here for Reference). If we apply this estimate to the population of Suffolk County, out of the approximate 375,000 children living there, about 1,125 children would be unvaccinated." So, even if all of the pertussis cases were within that estimated 1,125 children, that would be 0.3%. Not 3%, but 0.3%. That is minuscule and doesn't even include deaths, which is what we should be worried about.
