Guest guest
I’m happy that your son witnessed your poise regarding this matter. Too many people are bullied into vaccinations even though deep down in their heart they know something is just not right. *high five* From: bkagreen Sent: Wednesday, October 05, 2011 12:53 AM Vaccinations Subject: Ah yes today was my turn Took my son (13 no vacs since 5) for his sports physical today to the pediatrician. We did not see his normal ped because he wanted a male doc for his physical. The usual doc always recommends the vaccines that he is "behind" on but when I say no, she says OK and we agree to disagree. Not the pediatrician that we saw today. He is the high pressure guy. How could I put those babies at risk for pertussis he says? The ones that he is sure are getting it from adolescents like my sons age that are not vaccinated for it. Then he said "what about tetanus? These are real ya know?" (my son was last vaccinated 8 years ago when he had a tetanus shot??? By their standards he does not need another for 3 years right, yet I am suppose to be terrified of tetanus.......if the vaccine actually worked we are all set right??? (LOL again) He then told me about the young man that came home form college to my town that went to bed feeling ill and never woke up because he had meningitis and died. Funny all colleges now require the meningitis vaccine..........and there are many strains of meningitis that are not not covered by the vaccine. He did not volunteer what strain this young many had nor would he answer my direct question as to whether he was vaccinated or not just that he died. The next big gun was that parents of "our generation" are victims of vaccines that have worked to well(LOL). We have not lived through polio, measles, mumps or rubella outbreaks so we don't see the need for the vaccine. If we had lived when those disease were prevalent I would be singing a different tune (LOL). Just like I am suppose to freak out about H1N1 right (LOL again) They then told me that I had to sign the "waiver" that they gave to me saying that I was incompetent and potentially killing my child because I am so stupid. The waiver listed may possible side effects of getting the disease: encephalitis, seizures, deafness, blindness, even death. Interesting that they do not ask me to sign a waiver with the same possible side effects should I choose to vaccinate my child. My final statement to him was "I have done 100's of hours of research on vaccines on both sides of the fence and I am 100% certain that not continuing to vaccinating my son is the right decision for us." The waiver also stated that I was "REQUIRED" to tell the nurse EVERY TIME that I called the office (for anything) or came into the office that my son is not fully vaccinated so that she may give me "appropriate" information based on his symptoms and unvaccinated status. I am sure that you all know that I signed that right away!! (insert sarcasm). I politely said, "I am not trying to be confrontation (LOL) but I will need my lawyer to look this over before I decide whether or not to sign it. (Nope not signing it no matter way never no way not gonna happen). My favorite part of the day was when we got in the car and my son said "wow Mom you really sood your ground and you did not get mad" Yeah I showed my son how to stand up to a "Doctor" today for what I believe in. What a great lesson for him to learn. I normally have a great working relationship with his regular doctor, so we shall see if this gets me thrown out of the practice or not. No bid deal of it does, we can get a sports physical at school and we rarely go to the pediatrician anyway. Time to look into other practices in the area to see who is easier to work with. Guest guest
Nice job!! Boy, that doc had all his talking points lined up. It's almost comical that they think they're going to fool us into thinking it's from the heart--when we all know it's from a script. As I started to read this, I wondered what the vaccine du jour would be that he'd point to. In the olden days (haha) when my kids were little, it was the polio vaccine (of course there weren't as many). Meningitis--I expected that. Must not be in California or the pertussis would have been pushed hardest of all. But tetanus?? It's not even a communicable disease! I guess if they get you to have even one then they can report back to their gods that their patient is not unvaccinated. But you didn't give in to anything. I don't know which impresses me more, that or a 13-yr-old child--a son, no less--complimenting his mother! This made my day. Guest guest
Winnie, Since our son according to the schedule (it has been 8 years since he had a vaccine) he is behind on TDap, Meningitis and Chicken Pox. Guess he knew that the chicken pox thing was completely not worth trying so his big things were the Tetanus, pertussis and Meningitis. I don't think that they get much resistance on Meningitis or tetanus normally. You are right he did have his talking points ready. I just wish that I could have popped up some of the statistics that I have read that have convinced me that they were not going to stab my son again. When I get nervous they are hard to remember. Yep, my son is an amazing kid. before the appointment I asked (for the millionth time) what would you do if I was not with you and someone wanted to give you a vaccine? " I would get out of there fast Mom, I would punch them if I had to " funny to hear my son say this. What I have told him is that under no circumstances is anyone to give him a vaccine and he should do what he had to do to get away. It did make me nervous when I left the room (with this Doc) so that he could finish the " guy " part of the physical, but I was comforted knowing I was outside the door and that my son understands how I feel and how to say no. I know he could do it too, when he was 7 he refused to get into a car with a friends Dad because the guy did not have a booster car seat for him. (the Dad was driving carpool somewhere because the Mom who knew how I felt about carseats was ill). I was so proud that at 7 he stood up to an adult male for what he knew was right. > > Nice job!! Guest guest
It's okay you didn't remember statistics. Even if you had a printout of them, he would have pooh-poohed you. I once took a package insert for an Alzheimer's drug my mom's neurologist (which she was given despite NOT having Alzheimer's, another story). When I said I thought her supposed memory problems were from the drug, he laughed and said "how could that be?" I whipped out the papers, pointed while glaring at him to where it said just that, and he got quiet--then basically fired us! (I would have walked out long before but I wasn't in charge) So, guaranteed the ped would not have said "Oh, you're right. I'll stop harassing you now." A word of caution, I left my teenager with the ped thinking at 14-15 years old he could protect himself. The doc gave him a TB test! "But it wasn't a vaccine, Mom." So, add to it "no needles, no tests done, without Mom present." Better yet, stay and cover your eyes. Anyway, it sounds as if your son gets it. Smert boy! Guest guest
Great job ! As a mom who " lived through polio, measles, mumps and rubella outbreaks " (and only received the polio vax.), I can tell you that having the other three diseases was no big deal. Every kid in the neighborhood eventually had them, and we all survived and neither DH nor I can remember someone who suffered serious consequences, let alone died from them. I wonder if the doctor " lived through " any of these outbreaks? How could I put those babies at risk for pertussis he says? The ones that he is sure are getting it from adolescents like my sons age that are not vaccinated for it. Then he said " what about tetanus? These are real ya know? " (my son was last vaccinated 8 years ago when he had a tetanus shot??? By their standards he does not need another for 3 years right, yet I am suppose to be terrified of tetanus.......if the vaccine actually worked we are all set right??? (LOL again) He then told me about the young man that came home form college to my town that went to bed feeling ill and never woke up because he had meningitis and died. Funny all colleges now require the meningitis vaccine..........and there are many strains of meningitis that are not not covered by the vaccine. He did not volunteer what strain this young many had nor would he answer my direct question as to whether he was vaccinated or not just that he died. The next big gun was that parents of " our generation " are victims of vaccines that have worked to well(LOL). We have not lived through polio, measles, mumps or rubella outbreaks so we don't see the need for the vaccine. If we had lived when those disease were prevalent I would be singing a different tune (LOL). Just like I am suppose to freak out about H1N1 right (LOL again) They then told me that I had to sign the " waiver " that they gave to me saying that I was incompetent and potentially killing my child because I am so stupid. The waiver listed may possible side effects of getting the disease: encephalitis, seizures, deafness, blindness, even death. Interesting that they do not ask me to sign a waiver with the same possible side effects should I choose to vaccinate my child. My final statement to him was " I have done 100's of hours of research on vaccines on both sides of the fence and I am 100% certain that not continuing to vaccinating my son is the right decision for us. " The waiver also stated that I was " REQUIRED " to tell the nurse EVERY TIME that I called the office (for anything) or came into the office that my son is not fully vaccinated so that she may give me " appropriate " information based on his symptoms and unvaccinated status. I am sure that you all know that I signed that right away!! (insert sarcasm). I politely said, " I am not trying to be confrontation (LOL) but I will need my lawyer to look this over before I decide whether or not to sign it. (Nope not signing it no matter way never no way not gonna happen). My favorite part of the day was when we got in the car and my son said " wow Mom you really sood your ground and you did not get mad " Yeah I showed my son how to stand up to a " Doctor " today for what I believe in. ------------------------------------

Guest guest
Hi, I am jumping in real quick because I just need to know the best route. My 4 year old, who just started preschool (Tue & Thurs), broke out with the chicken pox this morning. She has been exposed to them about two months ago and never broke out. My two year old has swollen ears, both of them. They are red, a little warm and stick out like he is "baby new year". I don't know if it is chicken pox or something else. A friend had suggested that it might be the mumps! I will die, if I have to explain having exposed a preschool to chicken pox and the mumps together. Please tell me I am completely over reacting. I don't think chicken pox is a big deal, but it might be to other parents. The preschool never asked me for an immunization record either. She only went one day. It's easy to just say she wasn't ready and keep her home. I am just scared that someone will find out and that I have exposed someone else with it. Knowing my luck someone would die from it. Please help with any advice! I have seven children. The first two had all their shots. The second two were partial meaning everything but chicken pox and five year old shots. The last three have not had any. I also have a three month old baby and I am just concerned. I totally breastfeed. Guest guest
Well, first, your child did not just sprout this disease herself. So, it's not her fault it's around. Clearly she got it from elsewhere and with most people vaccinated, they could be the ones to blame for spreading the live virus from the vaccine. I doubt they're sweating their responsibility in that, so no reason you should. Diseases get spread--it's just a fact of life, not anyone's fault. Besides, if the others at the preschool are vaccinated, they're protected, right? And if not, they're open to getting whatever diseases same as you are (as should the vaccinated ones with their false sense of protection). I also wouldn't jump to mumps just on a friend's suggestion. I haven't heard of ears sticking out with mumps. The swelling is below them on the neck. Does the 2 yr old go to preschool, too? If not, how would they have exposed anyone anyway? Focus on nursing your children through whatever the illnesses are. Be glad if it is CP and then maybe everyone can get it and be done. The other preschoolers should only be so lucky as to all get it, too. Winnie Re: Re: Ah yes today was my turn> > > > It figures! Guest guest
Thank you Winnie! I actually got a hold of a good friend today after I wrote this and she said the same thing to me! It calmed me down so much. She said that My Catie did not start this and just as I don't know how she got it I should leave it be. They are all vaccinated anyway, why should they be concerned. I got home today and read my letter to you all....how silly I sounded. I've been so strong standing my ground on vaccines I let this get the best of me. My husband was out of town and I told him this morning and he was thrilled that she got it and our kids were exposed to it. So, lesson learned, I should count my blessings. I am still worried about my two year old. I don't think it's mumps either. Do you think the chicken pox could come out through his ears? They are puffy still (red and stick out) Should I be concerned. He is acting totally normal, no fever and no spots anywhere. Thank you for responding, Winnie. It reaffirmed what my friend had said to me and gives me much confidence! Guest guest
First of all, don’t panic2nd people are exposed to all sorts of germs and it’s no big deal. I got a few alerts at preschool but no child was singled out. That is confidential information. It’s not like your kid is going to be branded with a scarlet letter. Swollen ears is not the typical reaction for mumps or chicken pox from what I recall of their symptomology. Mumps inflames the lymph around the neck and they get a chipmunk appearance. Chicken pox starts out as what look like pimples, from what I recall. And I think incubation is just 2 weeks, not 2 mos Keep on breastfeeding. Don’t panic. Congratulations by the way! Babies are GREAT. I have a big family too though it doesn’t seem very big to me. just at dinner when everyone is around the table and it’s a very big table! We stopped vaxxing 10 years ago so some of mine have all, some and none. Hi, I am jumping in real quick because I just need to know the best route. My 4 year old, who just started preschool (Tue & Thurs), broke out with the chicken pox this morning. She has been exposed to them about two months ago and never broke out. My two year old has swollen ears, both of them. They are red, a little warm and stick out like he is " baby new year " .
Guest guest
This is HUGE. What a great lesson and example for your son. Hopefully he will remember this day for the rest of his life. > My favorite part of the day was when we got in the car and my son said " wow Mom you really stood your ground and you did not get mad " Yeah I showed my son how to stand up to a " Doctor " today for what I believe in. What a great lesson for him to learn. >
Guest guest
Dede, I don't have any advice for you not having dealt with any of these illnesses yet myself, and I would be worried about how the other parents would react too, but I just have to tell you that I loved your comment "with my luck, someone will die from it." I needed a good laugh tonight. lol Re: Re: Ah yes today was my turn It figures! He's been brainwashed by the pharmaceutical companies that all these vaxs are so necessary, and no first hand experience with the actual illnesses. Guest guest
Oh, you're not silly at all. You have a 3 month-old and worries about these things tend to get felt more then. No, I don't think chicken pox would come out in the ears that way. It starts with spots, generally on the back, and then spreads with new spots appearing as old ones go away. I'm not sure what the redness and swelling would be just on the ears with everything else normal. It could be that the CP is brewing and just hasn't happened yet. Maybe something got on the ears and irritated them, a hat or earphones/muffs? One of my sons once broke out in a weird rash on his ears and it turned out to be from the rubber on some noise-canceling earphones. Another son used to get red ears, and wacky behavior, too, when he was coming down with strep (not to say your son has that in particular) but I don't remember them swelling. Anyway, I'm glad everything is calmer now! Winnie Re: Re: Ah yes today was my turn> > > > > > > > It figures! Guest guest
Yes, I'm much calmer now. My two year old ears have gone down and it almost looks like a bug bite in one ear and not the other. But he's looking much better. Catie has about forty spots, but she looks and feels much better than the day before. I have gotten into so many debates about vaccines, I dread the "I told you so". So I often fear the worst. Isn't that how they want you to feel? Well I fell for it! For a moment I thought I wiped a whole preschool out with the black plague! Ha! Thanks for the advice and support!
