Hi ,I have to admit that I would be tempted to do the x-ray just so I would know what to expect recovery wise. I wouldn't give the stronger antibiotics though for a "potential" infection regardless of what the x-ray showed. This is just a "mom" opinion. I honestly don't know much about x-rays in terms of what harm they cause, it is what my gut would be telling me. Good luck!CameronFrom: darrin6649

I love this list...love it love it. I read the journals every day and though I have never posted, I know you regualar posters like family it seems! Anyhow, I wish my first post was on vaccine topics, but of course small crisis gave me some motivation to check with you here.

Can I have some opinions on accepting X-rays for injuries that have no treatment other than antibiotics and "stay off it"?

My 2 y/o DS had the top of the tip of his big toe (including the nail & bed) come off when a 10 gallon tub of coconut oil slipped off a stool onto it. (sniffle) There was lots of bleeding but there was nothing they could do for him in ER except clean and dress it and prescribe antibiotics to prevent infection. Of course they wanted to x-ray it to ensure there was no exposed fracture but because he was so strong and we couldn't hold him down to get a good picture, I elected to wait to x-ray it until he calmed down and we could take him to a family podiatrist friend.

They did not like me for deciding to wait (or because in my alarmed state I actually admitted that he is not vaccinated - I will never admit that again at ER).

Please chime in if you have a brief moment!

1.) Would you be diligent about getting an X-Ray to detect fracture if you knew the only treatment was stronger antibiotics for "potential infection"? (note: he had a sore toe the rest of the day and wouldn't walk on it, but did not cry or complain as if it was excruciating like you would expect if it was fractured)

2.) If it was or wasn't fractured would you give antibiotics for "potential infection"?

3.) should I accept the tetanus shot for this injury? .....HAHAHA sorry, just a joke - they actually tried to scare me into that one - tetanus, in my kitchen!!!

He eats a fairly traditional diet with lots of healthy fats, bone broth and homemade yogurts, kefir and ferments... but also some processed foods.

Thanks for anyone who has time to comment off topic like this.

Poor little guy. No, I don't think I'd get an x-ray for a toe injury since it's my understanding they don't do anything for a toe fracture. Nor would I get antibiotics at this point, especially because it bled so nicely. It's picking up something in the hospital I'd worry more about than tetanus. You can keep an eye on it and change your mind later.

Tetanus in your kitchen--funny! As if he had never been in there before. It sounds as if you did fine.

---I have not had time to read any comments but I steer clear of any radiation and EM frequencies as much as possible. It isn't good for anyone. We have had our share of "declining medical orders" and I have to say I am a proud parent of annoying the medical establishment. (And my family is all the better in health for it!)BTW - your comment on the tetanus was great! If your son is healthy, he'll fight infection just fine.He probably already has! If he needs some help, there are so many ways to naturally treat, many of which I am sure you already know of (if not email me & others on this). Were they wanting to check on a fractured toe??? Toes heal -If your son has more pain,

limping, etc... then I'd see about a fracture in his foot only by having a doc check him manually - call me old fashioned! This isn't rocket science - Kids get sprains, breaks . . . . the area swells, they are in discomfort, you support the area appropriately . . . and let's not forget most healthy kids heal fast and well. Your little one sounds very healthy!Sounds like you'd better beware more of the coconut oil tubs -;0), AlliFrom: Cameron <camimeg@...>"Vaccinations " <Vaccinations >Sent: Friday, October 14, 2011 10:56 AMSubject: Re: OT - XRays and antibiotics

Hi ,I'm with you but I would go to my regular doc and get his opinion. Did you see any bone exposed? If there was, that is the reason for their alarm.  A bone infection would be very serious.  I'm not saying that I would accept the preventative antibiotics though. I would check with my regular doc. ER's can be overly aggressive,  especially if they find out you don't vaccinate or give your child pain relievers.

Have you tried homeopathic Arnica Montana (6C or 30C) for it?  It will help it heal quickly and the pain is greatly lessened if not gone. Hope the little guy feels better soon!

You're all wonderful. Thank you , Alli, Cameron and Winnie for the peace of

mind. I'm taking him to an pediatric orthopedic surgeon today just to have them

help me change the dressing and to have the established relationship in case of

any complication. I do believe I saw a bit of the bone exposed, but with as

beautifully as he did this weekend, I cannot believe it is going to turn for the

worse.

He was running on it!? Granted, it was dressed very well from the ER visit, but

somehow he acted like nothing even happened. We'll see today after the dr visit.

Thank you all again for your dedication to this group

Warmest regards

Nickie

Okay, great--it sounds as if you have it under control. How did it go today?
