Guest guest
"In 2005 and 2006, the County’s Health Services Agency surveyed the families choosing the exemption and found that they were overwhelmingly college-educated, white, insured, and affluent."So clearly, their own study proves that it's the uneducated, poor, uninsured people of the world who are passing these supposed lies around...now if they had found that it was in fact poor, uneducated, uninsured people who were the bulk of those spreading these so called rumors and bad science....then they would claim that the "college-educated, white, insured, and affluent." were the sane ones...That almost implies that it's a bad thing to be intelligent, educated, financially comfortable, and insured. Guest guest
I commented. Let's see if they print it: What you vaccine-happy, drug pushers don't get is that many, if not most, parents don't vaccinate BECAUSE their children were harmed by vaccines, not out of ignorant fear. Experience. We TRUSTED the science. We weren't immune to it. We were knee deep in it, falling for all the "risks are worth the benefits" hype. You ramble on and on about autism as if that is the only concern. It wasn't on my mind at all when I stopped vaccinating my children. Stopped. Used to, remember? It wasn't on my mind at all, not just because my child who was damaged wasn't autistic. It's because I never heard of it in 1993! No, my child, the picture of health, with me 24/7, breastfed, and lovingly cared for became violently ill 10 days after his MMR vaccine. No one around us was sick--middle of summer, beautiful weather. No reason for it. It was years before I figured out why my child became plaqued with asthma, allergies, pneumonias after such a healthy infancy as I pored over his medical records. Three more children and 18 years later, my family is unvaccinated and healthy. I guess they didn't need their toxins to thrive after all. As for Ms. Pipes crediting the CDC and other public health agencies with the wisdom to remove mercury from vaccines, she ought to check her facts. The CDC and company didn't just wake up one day and realize how stupid it was to inject children with mercury. It was public pressure that brought that on. It also took several years before all of the existing, mercury-containg vaccine stock was used up. There was NO recall. At the same time, the number of vaccines were increased from two dozen in 1999 to four dozen now (including yearly flu vaccines for ages 6 months and up, not recommended at all until several years ago). It's not a surprise at all that autism rates would have risen, too. Early on most pediatric flu vaccines had mercury in them, so with the recommendation to add flu vaccines to the schedule, mercury was added, too, even if mercury was being phased out. SLOWLY. And some vaccines still have mercury in trace amounts, as it is put in and then mostly taken out. But what about other ingredients? Many are toxic. Check here: (http://www.vaccinesafety.edu/package_inserts.htm) What about other health problems? Our childrens' health is in a terrible state: allergies, (including many food allergies, and fatal ones, like peanut), asthma (inhalers are commonplace where I never saw one growing up 50 years ago), cancers (ditto), diabetes, arthritis, learning disabilities, ADD, ADHD and more. What about those whooping cough and measles cases? If proper research was done, you would know that most of those people were vaccinated! It's not all about autism. It's not about "tortured logic." It's not about "willful disregard for science. " It's about parents waking up and connecting the dots between vaccines and ill health in their children. It's about public health being "far too valuable to be threatened by such myths," myths that vaccines are safe. It's about MY child, other people's children, having been harmed from vaccines. Immune to science, indeed. How insulting to those of us who trusted it. Guest guest
The right people? It has happened to journalist Macneil's grandson, actor Travolta's son, congressman Burton's grandchildren, and actress MacCarthy's son. That is 4 off the top of my head. How many more? In my own family the damage was in the 1920s, and one in 1992. In the interim, we tried to warn others only to be ignored, laughed at, villified, shunned, until we just shut up. I am glad so many have awakened to the truth, but at what price? Such unneeded sadness! ~ Maureen R. Guest guest
For the most part, the article is getting slammed in the comments section. I particularly liked this one: << Sally, Wakefield’s work was on the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine. This is a live virus vaccine. If thimerosal was added to this vaccine, like you claim, it would kill the live virus’s in the vaccine in a New York second. This would render the vaccine worthless. Should you really be writing on a subject that you obviously know nothing about? Anyway, who needs Wakefield’s commentary regarding autism and vaccination when you have the spokesperson of Health and Human Services (HHS) saying: “We have compensated cases in which children exhibited an encephalopathy, or general brain disease. Encephalopathy may be accompanied by a medical progression of an array of symptoms including autistic behavior, autism, or seizures.†Bowman Office of Communications Health Resources and Services Administration 301-443-3376 >> http://www.forbes.com/sites/sallypipes/2011/09/12/anti-vaccine-activists-apparently-immune-to-science/?feed=rss_home
Guest guest
I liked that one, too. The fact that both the MMR vaccine and mercury are believed to cause autism individually (and also combined by getting multiple vaccines) sometimes gets muddled. A good journalist would have known that. Instead she took one issue (MMR/autism) and made the leap to defend all vaccines. Guest guest
Thanks, and my family was practically untouched compared to many others whose children were permanently damaged or killed. I am very lucky.
