Guest guest
Dear Group:Please tell me if chiropractors are allowed to give physicals for school and employment in CA. When I went to private religious school as a child, 1960 my father, a chiropractor signed off on my physical exam. I came home a year later with a note from the nurse requesting that I go to a "real" doctor for an exam. My mom sent back a note educating that nurse and teacher that chiropractors are licensed to give physicals.Years later, I applied for work in a large school district, and I got my physical from my chiropractor, the one who adjusted me through my pregnancies. When I turned in that paper, a very large, old doctor walked up to me, in front of many people, yelled in my face and told me that only a board certified doctor who is licensed to do surgery could give a physical in the state of CA. I calmly asked him if there were any Christian Scientists who worked for the district since restricting hiring would be an act of religious discrimination, and he got even more angry. I do not recall what happened. I walked out.So, have things changed? Can Chiropractors, naturopaths, acupuncturists, give physicals for school or employment? ~ Maureen R.
