I wouldn’t say that is measles, from the pix I’ve seen of it. but keep asking and looking and read dr mendolsohn’s book Nita, mom to: 18, Jon 16, 14, 12, 9, Christian (7/16/03 to 8/22/04), 5, Isaac 3 and , born 3/1/11http://momof6.dotphoto.com for possibly current pictures and http://nitasspot.blogspot.comLearn from the mistakes of others. Trust me... you can't live long enough to make them all yourself.

Is it possible it could be a reaction to something, especially with the red around the mouth and eyes? Also have you looked at rubella pics online? My son had what I thought was rubella. It wasn’t around his mouth or eyes though and he had a high fever. Otherwise it was very mild. Signs and Symptoms http://kidshealth.org/parent/infections/skin/german_measles.htmlRubella infection may begin with 1-2 days of mild fever (99-100° F/37.2-37.8° C) and swollen, tender lymph nodes, usually in the back of the neck or behind the ears. A rash then begins on the face and spreads downward. As it spreads, it usually clears on the face. This rash is often the first sign of illness that a parent notices. The rubella rash can look like many other viral rashes. It appears as either pink or light red spots, which may merge to form evenly colored patches. The rash can itch and lasts up to 3 days. As the rash clears, the affected skin occasionally sheds in very fine flakes.Other symptoms of rubella (these are more common in teens and adults) can include headache, loss of appetite, mild conjunctivitis (inflammation of the lining of the eyelids and eyeballs), a stuffy or runny nose, swollen lymph nodes in other parts of the body, and pain and swelling in the joints (especially in young women). Many people with rubella have few or no symptoms. Oh, how lovely (her, too!). What strikes me first is that the rash seems to be heavy around her mouth and eyes, but is not speckly like the rest of her body. Second, it is all over her body within a day. Plus, she does have the runny nose which points to illness more than an allergic reaction.

According to here: (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/rubella/DS00332/DSECTION=symptoms) the rubella rash does spread quickly and last 2-3 days (in fact, it's called the 3-day rash).

Here: (http://kidshealth.org/parent/infections/skin/german_measles.html) it says the rash will clear from the face as it spreads down so that could explain why it's different on her face in the pic. Keep taking pics and note how she is on Monday and Tuesday. It's curious how the rash is concentrated around her mouth.

I'd say it's more likely rubella than measles, which takes longer to spread down the body: (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/measles/DS00331/DSECTION=symptoms) and she should have white spots in her mouth with measles (not sure it they have to be there, but if they are...).

But it might be neither. It could be roseola: (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/roseola/DS00452/DSECTION=symptoms). I wonder if it's actually the same as rubella...

Thinking back, my youngest used to get similar all body rashes like this. It used to wig me out but he's just fine now. I'd treat it as any illness--Vit. C, quercetin, Larix, homeopathics. Keep us updated!

No fever even? I'd go back and see what she ate that was different lately. Poor kid, whatever the cause. I'd cry, too!

I have to say that she does not have a runny nose (only when she has been crying) so in the picture she had just finished crying.

No cough, no other symptoms except for the swollen glands behind the ears, so it very well could be rubella. I believe the only way she could have gotten it is from someone who was vaccinated!!

I will keep you posted.

thank you!!!

poor baby

she looks miserable

it is still hard to tell

I would give Vitamin A, 2 days of high doses in case it is measles.

I also would give higher doses of Vitamin C as I describe here

Will post again

What are her other symptoms? What is her mood like?

It doesn't matter what the 'name' of it is - if she is miserable and

getting worse, just treat the symptoms with homeopathy

Was she exposed to anything new on Friday?

children are not usually very sick with rubella

Scarlet fever is another possibility - does she seem like she has a sore

throat?

Thank you for the help! Yes, I think she is adorable also!

I thought about the fifth disease also, but she doesn't have any of those symptoms however.

She only ran a very low grade fever one day (Saturday) and it was 99.1

No, she doesn't seem to be sick, just complaining of her eyes and today she said she has been pulling on her ears. They said she had swollen glands, just found this out.

I might want to add that my daughter and granddaughter live 70 miles away so I am only communicating through phone and text.

I did mention the swollen glands in a previous post.

thank you everyone!!!

You know, a thought occurred to me this morning. The first doc declared this was measles and sent them on their way--not much concern at all for what is supposed to be such a "deadly" disease requiring repeated mass vaccination of all children in the world.

Plus, at least in CT, measles is a Category 1 disease (highest rating) and is to be reported immediately by phone if merely suspected, not even confirmed. Yet, he sent them off untreated. But for all we know he did report it, so you might want to make your daughter aware in case someone comes knocking on her door. It would be good to have something in hand with another diagnosis.

Anyway, the body can react in the same way to a real disease and to a perceived one (allergy) the same way. So, swollen glands don't necessarily point to an illness--although I'd think a fever would. But hers was low and just for a day--could have been the heat?

To me, it looks a lot like an allergic reaction. My friend's daughter used to

get like that when exposed to perfumes, lotions, and laundry soap. My ex-husband

looked like that after petting a horse.

This is also what I’m thinking. My daughter at about that age and until 2 would get atopic dermatitis and in some cases her face and eyes would swell too. How long did the swelling last?

I’ve also read that children get low grade temps up to 99.6 just from the heat.
