I must have stepped into an alternate universe. This article reports that there is no school closing; no hand-wringing, public health official spreading lies and fear; and despite mentioning two previous deaths there is NOT A WORD ABOUT VACCINES. In fact, get this:

"Bacterial meningitis can be treated with antibiotics. Frequent hand washing with soap and water or use of alcohol-based hand rubs or gels is the best way to prevent it, health officials said."

What? This can't be! The best way is NOT vaccination? Common sense and calm demeanors abound. Could the tide be turning?

MECOSTA COUNTY, Mich. -- A female student at Chippewa Hills High School in Mecosta County is being treated for bacterial meningitis, school officials said Monday. Superintendent Shirley told WNEM TV5 the student is receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. The student was not in class on Friday. said the county’s health department is sending the high school a letter that will alert parents of what to be aware of. The district is following the guidance of the health department and classes are taking place as scheduled, said. Bacteria meningitis is spread via close contact involving an exchange of saliva, and is not foodborne or spread by casual contact. Bacterial meningitis can be treated with antibiotics. Frequent hand washing with soap and water or use of alcohol-based hand rubs or gels is the best way to prevent it, health officials said. Last year, a 14-year-old Farwell Middle School student died from bacterial meningitis. Meyers died a little more than a week after contracting the illness last May.
