Guest guest
Do you have access to the actual laws the way we do here in the U.S.? Sometimes the colleges say one thing but when you pursue it, you find out differently. Guest guest
I don't know where to find the actual law. She is wanting to get a diploma in social work, and the college will admit her to classes, the problem lies in her work placements. She is required to work so many hours in a job placement. Most placements would fall under the health care field (similar to nurses and paramedics) and they are required to be fully vaccinated. This is what it says on the college form: POLICY FOR STUDENT PLACEMENTS: Health Care Providers and students who work in health care facilities have an obligation to protect patients and themselves from infection that can be transmitted within health care practice settings. Immunization is an important tool in preventing the transmission of infections and assists in safeguarding the health of the student during their education and beyond: 1. Durham College has mandated immunization /testing requirements for all students doing clinical practice in designated agencies 2. These agencies have the right to refuse access to students who do not meet their immunization/testing requirements. 3. Failure to submit a signed and correctly completed immunization form to the practicum coordinator may lead to the de-registration from clinical courses. It is the student's responsibility to ensure the following: 1. The form is complete, legible and signed by the student and authorized Health Care Providers (HCP) and copies are made for their personal records. 2. Copies of the original immunization records are to be attached along with all required serology reports/results and chest x-ray report (if needed due to positive Mantoux results). These documents can take several weeks to obtain. 3. Medical exemption is attached if necessary (no personal exemptions will be accepted). 4. Computerized records of childhood vaccines can be obtained by calling your Public Health Department. Students who attended Durham Region Elementary/High Schools call 905-668-7711 and ask for the immunization department. Contact information for all Ontario Public Health Departments can be found on the following web-site. I'm really hoping there is a way around this!! -Kathy Help with college admittance - Ontario Canada Vaccinations > I need some help/advice regarding college admission. Guest guest
contact Edda at http://www.vran.org info@... for help with Canada - I don't know how they can require for college when not required for other schools and against constitution to require vaccines Let me know what happens. But I would suggest staying away from traditional medicine - its not a health field but a disease field but ask Edda what to do Sheri At 12:56 PM 4/5/2011, you wrote: I need some help/advice regarding college admission. According to the school website, she must provide copies of all her immunizations (she has had none) or a medical exemption. It goes on to state that personal exemptions are not accepted. Is there anyway around this? Does this mean that she cannot pursue a career in the health field? I am so upset right now! Kathy
Guest guest
I'm not sure. I'd hate for her to go through 2 years of schooling and then find out she couldn't do her placement. I'm trying to find the guidelines for health professionals (nurses etc). That is where the problem lies. She will be able to attend college but in order to work in the field she needs the medical exemption. -Kathy Help with college admittance - Ontario Canada > Vaccinations > > > I need some help/advice regarding college admission. Guest guest
Thanks, I sent a message to VRAN already, but haven't yet heard back from them. She wants to be a social worker or a child/youth worker. -Kathy Re: Help with college admittance - Ontario Canada contact Edda at http://www.vran.org <mailto:info@...>info@... for help with Canada - I don't know how they can require for college when not required for other schools and against constitution to require vaccines Let me know what happens.
