Guest guest
Diane, One of my children had the same kind of problem like Rochelle with strep throat. Finally the ENT decided that she was a carrier in her tonsils. The Antibiotic only took care of the surface problem. Out they came, and she has NEVER had it again! Maybe Rochelle is the same way. First they also put my daughter in long term antibiotics -- 6 weeks. Sometimes that alone may take care of the problem. Good luck. ~Lynn, Mom to and the Zoo
Guest guest
Thanks Lynn, I don't think Rochelle is a carrier because the strep has been going through her small class of seven. She was not the first to get it. Once she recovered it went through the class again and got the new kid. I do agree someone is a carrier. Rochelle has only gotten strep throat once in her life before this. It was after ear surgery. It was never a problem. I am worried because I don't think the procedures at school are preventing the spread. All the kids in her class mouth things and they don't wipe the toilet between kids. I don't know if they always wash their hands. I'm not there. I know last year in another class they forgot lots of times to clean hands. But after reading your reply I will go easier on the school. It is possible Rochelle is the carrier. I don't know enough about it. She has been on 4 wks of antibotics after 2 wks of antibotics. You would think it would be dead. She did get better after the 4 wks. Does anyone know if toothbrushes, toys and such spread the strep if they have been dry for 4 or 5 days? After Alison (10, NDA) got it three times and others in the house (including me....first time in my life) our ped wrote scripts for every single person in the house, even though Maddie and Duff showed no signs of it. I forget what he put Allie on, but it was way more potent than pennicilin. I would toss toothbrushes in the trash and wash toys well (boil ones you can). Still, it's hard to keep it away if it's coming from the classroom as you can't count on everyone to take the same diligent care that you would. Good luck dear!!! Guest guest
Abby is possibly on her third round of antibiotic resistant strep (culture will take a few days), since school started this year. I don't recall her ever having had strep before. We're beginning to think she may just not be getting completely over it, even though her recheck cultures have been fine. Then again, it may be because Mom completely forgot they use a toothbrush everyday in her Headstart classroom. I threw away all the toothbrushes at home and started fresh several times. I knew they used toothbrushes in school because I volunteer in her room regularly. Never occurred to me until she started her fever yesterday that I had never talked to her teachers about getting a new toothbrush. Sheesh! So.....if your kids use toothbrushes at school, don't forget to have the teachers get a new one! Sorry Abby!!! , chagrined mother to Abigail 5 years old with Down syndrome and Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Andy 18, 21; step-mom to Sherrill 21, and Becky 24 in Gaylord, Michigan
Guest guest
Yes , I remembered the toothbrushes at school. But, today I asked the teacher to check if the Speech Teacher used any mouth things. She does use lip pulls and chewy tubes. I don't know if Rochelle has one because I refused to pay for it. I thought the school should pay for it if they thought she needed it. Although I never told them that. I did find out that strep is usually transmitted by water droplets from sneezing, laughing, (flossing) (I added that one in when I got some on my son) made him go wash. etc... Talked to my sister nurse. She thinks it is an epidemic and everyone needs to be treated. She says it is dangerous. And yes Rochelle did not completely recover after one of the strep incidents. Amoxicillan just didn't do the trick. I think there is a carrier in the class. The health department said each school has its on policy and its up to the principle to decide what to do. Why is the principle in charge of health? I am so frustrated. I am calling school nurse tomorrow. I got the strep today. Rochelle was sneezing all over me last week. Oh well, not suffering to much. Got right into the nurse and treatment. Hope my son doesn't get it. He is scheduled for tube surgery Friday. Thanks everyone for your feedback. Guest guest
dont forget your pets may be transmitting the virus too, i would just wash the stuffed toys and put any plastic etc toys in the dishwasher, the doc says the dishwasher is a great sterilizer with the intense heat on heated dry. Weve been trying those toothettes, just toss away after use --get a huge box of them at a time and nathan loves them im hoping to get rid of this month long cold, anywhere we can get less germs the better. shawna. Guest guest
once in the third grade my son got strep f. but has never had any other illness and never fever free. good luck char ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
Guest guest
Hi That's fantastic news that your son has been fever free for so long. I also totally understand your feeling of happiness that he had something 'normal' as a strep throat rather than a fever. I have heard before that kids who outgrow and some of those who have T & As to get rid of them do start getting sick with common bugs like other kids do. Certainly with us we have seen Emma pick up other bugs while she's in remission from fevers. I am not sure if the other bugs are what bring on the remissions or if the remission makes her susceptible to other bugs. Take care Inga, mom of Emma, 27 months
Guest guest
Hi Pam I share your confusion! Just as I thought I had it all worked out and could tell a fever from another infection a mile off, Emma got her typical fever, we gave prednisone, the fever went away for 24 hours and then she got an ear infection and needed antibiotics! A day after the course of antibiotic finished, Emma got ANOTHER fever. Again we were sure it was and gave prednisone. Again it went away for 24 hours and came back. This time the doctor couldn't find any other infection! She fevered like mad another 36 hours and we ended up giving a 2nd dose of prednisone, that one seems to have done the trick - fingers crossed! We're having Emma's T & A on 19th March and I really hope she will be a healthier little girl after that. Take care Inga
Guest guest
Eileen, Antibiotics never really did much for my son's strep throat -what sorted it in the end was colloidal silver sprayed onto the back of the throat twice a day + 5ml of colloidal silver swirled round the mouth for 30secs then swallowed. The hospital are very surprised that he hasn't had another sore throat. We all reach for the colloidal silver at the first signs of a sore throat! > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > Could you tell me any of your experiences with this please? > > Elliot's antibody level to strep was 8 times the highest it should be! Guest guest
Thank you for the information regarding colloidal silver. Elliot doesn't get sore throats strangely. He does very occasionally have a constant 24 hour cough but other than that there are no other signs. Stacey

Guest guest
I'm sure this topic has circulated already, so I'm sorry if it's repetitious. Strep is going around our neighborhood schools, including the one my kids go to. I know it's one of those things that they really lay on the pressure for antibiotics. Do any of you have advice for prevention/treatment of strep so I can try to stay on top of it?Thanks very much.
