Guest guest
No they are not mandatory. You don't have to have any for school. Our health service is paid for from taxes, it is free at the point of entry. If you have a problem you go to you GP and they refer you if you need it, no money changes hands at all. If you don't work you still get treated. You only have to pay for RX if you have an income. All child RX are free. All the childhood vaccines are free (so to speak). We are not offered, Hep B, Hep A, chicken pox, rotavirus or flu vaccines for healthy people. These are not on our schedule. Chicken pox outbreaks happen every year, most people get it, last year whole familes got it. Singles vaccines are availbe privately but they are what is called 'not licensed' that means the Governement will not use them via the National health service. Guest guest
Have a home birth, then. If you want one, go for it. Personally I have 5 children and the last 2 were both home births and they were brilliant. I loved it. The first home birth was painless, and I mean that, totally painless (I was talking on the phone at the time when she arrived faster than I thought) and my son's birth was only mild discomfort and I had no drugs at all, no gas and air etc. With the 3 hospital births I was in agony because they made me lie on a bed and then they cut me with the first one by force and I was in so much pain I couldn't breast feed or even walk and it was like that for 2 weeks. I was pumped full of drugs and was still in more pain than I was with my unmedicated home births! Go for it, you honestly won't regret it. Of course I don't know how easy it is to get a home birth in the States as I'm from the UK but I presume that people can have one. Certainly if there were any at birth vaccines here I wouldn't go anywhere near a hospital. Joanna. I would take FCLO daily and probiotics (esp. if you don't get a lot of fermented foods) and would be working on getting lots of high quality raw dairy, grass fed protein, and leafy greens. Guest guest
Joanna, I think it will be a beautiful experience. I was even considering a water birth. I definitely do not want any drugs. I do some research in regards to this. Here in the states, everything is illegal. It could be a crime for me to have my baby at home. I had a natural birth with my first child and I did use some drugs the hospital prescribed, but I didn't know any better then. Now, I'm fully aware. I really appreciate you sharing your birth experiences with me. Guest guest
Hi K, I had an amazing home birth and I would be happy to share all of the tips that I learned to manage pain and to make the process easier if you would like. While, not a walk in the park, our bodies (as women) are designed to do exactly what you are about to do, so what ever path you take, the biggest thing is to trust in your body and to relax as best as you can. And you don't have to give birth on your back- that is purely for the doctor's convenience! The back position can delay the process and inhibit the coxis from raising when the baby descends ... much more painful! Also, did you know that some women actually have orgasm's during birth? Ok, so I was not one of those but hopefully you will be (-: My midwife recommends to go on a raw diet (fruit, veggies, nuts and seeds) for the last month of the pregnancy. Cheese is ok. She believes that it helps to tone the body for the job of having a baby without drugs. Honestly, it was very difficult to eat raw for me because I had to eat all of the time. And, I did end up cheating about every third day with a baked potato. (Shhh, don't tell on me (- Also, another good thing to take is a green drink, daily. Vitamins were something that I was told to avoid. I'm not sure of the policies where you are, but if you do go to a hospital I would insist that the baby rooms in. And, should the baby need incubation, you may do some quick research on mom's who incubate their own baby (ie. hold them next to their skin). I'm also under the impression that hospitals will tell you that something can't be done because it is inconvenient to them- and not against policy. Kind of like being told that jabs are 'mandatory' ya know? Best! ~F Another one strong in South Africa From: Katrina <paralegalactivist@...>Vaccinations Sent: Mon, January 31, 2011 3:50:39 AMSubject: Re: vaccines in UK F, Ir's funny that you said that. Also, can anyone recommend any supplements for a pregnant woman and supplements etc for a baby? I want to go by things the right way. I plan to make all of my baby's food and juices. Thank you! Guest guest
Hi Kimberley, I'm in the UK and vaccination is definately not mandatory - there is no need to apply for any kind of exemption - you just say no. Neither of mine have reached school age, but as far as i'm aware it should not be an issue in school admission - my eldest's nursery asked for vaccination history and I just filled in that none were given and there were no problems, in fact when there was a measles outbreak at nursery, the teacher just informed me so I knew he'd been potentially exposed (he didn't catch them only fully vaccinated children did). One thing perhaps to be aware of with your eldest is that under UK law they may be considered old enough to give informed consent to vaccination, so that may be something you wish to discuss as BCG and HPV and a DTP booster are given at school and the school will send out consent forms. However, it could be argued that your child is " gillick competent " (after a high court test case) and therefore able to give consent. One other potential problem might be registering with a GP, who over here can deregister you, don't know if you will be using our NHS or if you have private cover. I doubt it will be an issue for you though as both of your children are over the age where the GPs receive payment for reaching childhood vaccination targets set by the government (the teenage ones are done at school). I was recently referred to a paed consultant by mine to try to persuade me to vaccinate which I politely refused after shooting the arguements I was given down in flames. I don't go to my doctors very often but I actually quite like mine as they are fairly open to complementary and alternative therapies and most gps over here support vaccination (especially as they are in effect paid to). I'm also fairly lucky as vaccination uptake in my area is fairly high so my gp should reach his payment targets without counting my children. Good luck with the move and hope that answers your questions - feel free if there's anything I can help you with.
