Guest guest
from someone on the list in past times......... I second this! I was + for my first pregnancy, but for my second I did a garlic/probiotic treatment BEFORE the test and I can back neg. A mom on another board did this: *1.) Tea Tree oil, after bathing, insert clean Q-tip into oil- then swab perinium area and move to the back area...'ya know? Some then insert it " back there " for a moment- I was very determined, so I did too. It just feels tingly, like mint or something. It doesn't hurt. Once per day. 2.) Echinacea 2-350 mg caps daily *3.) 2 oral Lactobacillus Acidophilous caps daily, (4 billion cells dose) also, one inserted vag at night. 4.) Vit E- 400 MIU/Day *5.) Vit C 500-1000 mg per day The ones marked * are the ones that I did in addition to the nightly garlic. Google alternative GBS treatments and it will help. You can push to have the doctor retest closer to due date b/c GBS comes and goes. If you do the garlic/probiotic treatment you can be pretty sure that the colonization is either gone or greatly reduced. In tests garlic kills yeast infections, too. If the doctor doesn't want to retest, you can have it don't yourself at a lab and then you can be more comfortable refusing the ABX. There are also vaginal washes that can be used while in labor. If you are still GBS+ : No internal exams after (A)ROM or limit them before water breaks/is broken to keep bacteria from being spread into the birth canal more than what it may already be. -Kristi AND BELOW > > I have friends who swear by garlic for this... Guest guest
I was Strep-B positive for my first pregnancy(in the United States). I took anti-biotics during labor after hearing all of the reasons to be afraid of Strep-B ( I was very afraid.) When I got pregnant again (this time in Africa) I fessed-up to my OB/GYN who happened to be one of the top Dr's in this city. I was shocked when he told me that latest research suggests that the risks of taking anti-biotics during labor outweigh the benefits and that the risk of transmitting Strep-B to newborns is so rare that they don't even test for it any more! But, my midwife was concerned and after the baby was born I was told to look for crusting over on the eyes- if this should happen to make Rooibos tea, cool it and dab it in a cotton ball over my babies eyes to rid of the infection. Fortunately, I never had to worry about this as she was just fine.
