Last night CNN claimed that vaccines don't cause autism and discredited Dr.

Wakefield's research. Most of us know better and have been researching the

truth for a long time, despite what the pharmaceutical companies want the

misinformed masses to believe.

The less people vaxed... But then, I thought, the pop culture probably doesn't

even know what herd immunity is!! lol

I have a friend whos very passionate about the importance of vaccinating and she calls those that dont selfish and irresponsible. In fact, her and her hubby cancelled a family trip to NY becasue there was an outbreak of mumps (or measles?) which totally doesnt make sense because if youre vaccinated, you should technically have nothing to worry about right? but i guess, she was worried about her unvaccinated baby ...

ANYWAYS - i had a thought today. Yesterday we were chatting about the larger bigger picture problem with vaccinations and put a hold on the autism thing because at this point its hard to prove. So my thought today was about all those moms out there who have experience with this. I am sure there are groups and forums of mothers (and fathers) of children who were directly affected by vaccinations.

Winnie - i remember you saying that you have a child who had problems that were a direct cause of vaccinations? How can the world / media / government / medical people - how can they ignore this immensely large group of people who all share this terrible reaction caused by vaccinations?? granted, not all of them are autistic related - but they all have lasting negative side effects from getting inoculated. So i really dont get it....

Well, my son was lucky. No autism, plus I became enlightened about two years into his asthma/allergies, quit vaccinating and he got his health back when I switched to a naturopath. I have no doubt it would have been a downhill spiral if I'd continued trusting the peds. He's now 20, and fine.

Back then (1991), autism was not heard of much, if at all--I don't know because I never heard of it! I didn't have a computer, therefore no way of researching or hearing much, just vague mutterings of "rare" reactions. And there was not this plague of allergies and other conditions then. I have no doubt that skyrocketed in the 1990's, not just because I became aware, but because I was aware of a previous time that it didn't exist to this degree. So, to me autism has nothing to do with why I don't vaccinate.

And I don't think the world is ignoring it. I think those who are making money off it are and that they have a great influence when they associate themselves with others in power (government, media). But those of us who are paying attention just don't have the same power (or time or funding) to be heard on a mass basis. That's why groups such as this are so important because we can spread the word in other ways.

Ah, herd immunity. Whenever I say something like how have my children survived without vaccines, I'm told it's because other people vaccinate theirs. They're so sure their children's vaccines have protected MY children but not so sure their own are protected!!!

Were you at my house years ago?? I had that exact conversation with snooty, know-it-all, nurse SIL who said I put her vaccinated child at risk by not vaccinating mine. I said, really, then you're saying they don't work? She said not always. I said then why get them? We've been enemies ever since. The woman holds a grudge like no other...

Interesting point Winnie... i told my husband what i told you - about how people can ignore the amounts of families that have experience with this... and he told me that there is a government fund that gives people money who have had negative reactions to the vaccines... (i never knew that before) --- it makes you wonder why this fun is readily available, like its expected something may happen.

He's thinking of this: (http://www.nvic.org/injury-compensation.aspx) but the government doesn't just give it to you. As you can see at the link, 2 out of 3 people are denied compensation and that's if they even get to the point of being heard. And when they get it, it can be extremely low and take many years of stress to actually receive anything. It is not a simple matter.

But, yes, of course they expect reactions. This act protects the vaccine manufacturers from being sued by giving parents another avenue to seek financial compensation. The idea didn't come from our leaders, either.
