Hi a,

in raw honey there are sometimes Clostridium botulinum bacteria

found. These bacterias produce a paralyzing toxin(used also in the cosmetic

industry), which can be fatal to very young babies. For adults the amount of

this toxin, which can only be found in raw honey is neglectable, but for

newborns(especially first 6 months) it can be dangerous, because there intestinal

flora is not yet developed. If they eat raw honey these bacterias can multiply

rapidly and in rare cases induce botulism. The so called botulism of babies.

Hope that helps

Andi

Does anybody have the answer to why honey is

supposedly so dangerous to babies (up to 12 months)? And if taken what could

happen?

I made liver pate (for iron) and without thinking added a table spoon of raw

honey into the mix (1.5 lb of liver) following the recipe... Now I am not sure

if it's safe to feed it to my baby.

Thank you for your thoughts and expertise,

a
