Guest guest
Hi all, I got a phone call a little while ago from a dad whose 3 year old is about to start pre-school (he called it kinder - must not be in NSW?) Anyway, he wanted to get her the MMR vaccine. She has not gotten that shot because they didn't want to give it to her when she was too young but are happy to do so now. I explained that they could choose not to vaccinate if they wanted to and that she would not be rejected from preschool if they didn't go down that route and the father said that it was too much trouble not to give his daughter the vaccine so he wanted to go ahead with it. You see, the government's blather is all about forcing people to do what it wants them to do and not at all with telling them the truth. His concern was that he checked with the Health Insurance Commission on what would be required for his daughter to be considered vaccinated against measles and they told him that since she didn't have the first vaccine at 12 months, he would have to get her one vaccine for MMR and then, a month later, another shot! Now WTF? Excuse me but this just plain pisses me off! When the MMR vaccine came out in the mid 1980s. we were told that it was one shot for life. Then, vaccinated kids were coming down with those three diseases so they said that the immunity must wear off so we need to boost the immunity so a second shot was added before school age. But NOWHERE does it say that you are supposed to give 2 shots a month apart and for what reason???? Are these lollies we are talking about here or medical treatments with a long and shocking list of potential side effects - side effects which could be exacerbated if they are given more often then they should. Has anyone ever seen a study to show that MMR can be safely administered twice as long as the doses are separated by a month? And why would you do that? If one shot doesn't protect, why would 2? It just makes me so angry when I hear about these people who are supposed to be the experts and yet, who haven't got a clue. Meanwhile, we are constantly told that you should not speak with anyone but a doctor to get information about vaccination. Well I'm sorry but if this is the sort of advice that doctors are giving out, I will stick with the pro-choice, pro-information groups and that small number of doctors who have actually researched this issue for themselves and are well-informed rather than well-brainwashed. All the best, Meryl
Guest guest
Meryl, there is a calculator at http://www.health.sa.gov.au/immunisationcalculator/immcalc.htm Plugging in a birthdate of 2007, gives the 2nd dose of MMR to be 12 months after the first. > > Hi all, > > I got a phone call a little while ago from a dad whose 3 year old is about to start pre-school (he called it kinder - must not be in NSW?) Guest guest
Here's the vaccine package insert (does more than one company make them?): (http://www.merck.com/product/usa/pi_circulars/m/mmr_ii/mmr_ii_pi.pdf) Check out page 3: "Previously unvaccinated children older than 12 months who are in contact with susceptible pregnant women should receive live attenuated rubella vaccine (such as that contained in monovalent rubella vaccine or in MMR II) to reduce the risk of exposure of the pregnant woman." The vaccine is a live virus vaccine so the exposure (not the risk of exposure--there's a difference!) is increased. Dummies. And what monovalent rubella vaccine?? There is none. Page 4: "Most children with a history of anaphylactic reactions to eggs have no untoward reactions to measles or MMR vaccine." Now, just how would they know that? Because they gave them the vaccine knowing the bad history?? Page 8: deaths have been reported after the MMR vaccine. Anyway, page 2 gives the dosage as one at 12-15 months of age and a second dose at 4-6 years NOT a month later. There is no second vaccine for a three year old according to Merck.
