Skeptics and their comments - public vaccination debate

The modus opperandi of a pseudo-skeptic - attack the person and you never have to deal with the issue... And the reason why skeptics never deal with the issues? They are simply not well-informed enough to deal with any questions that might arise. Look at the immunology student who stepped up and agreed to participate in a live public debate with me on the issue of vaccination. After speaking with some of his pseudo-skeptical mates, he decided that the 'debate' should not be in public after all but rather, on the internet and that it should take place over a period of days or weeks rather than the one evening he had accepted. These terms were not acceptable to me - especially since I had stated my terms very clearly and he had accepted them as they were written.I will repeat the offer here. If there is anyone out there who would like to debate the benefits and risks of vaccinations with me, I am happy to meet them.My terms are:1- That this be in a public venue that we both agree upon2- That members of the general public be allowed entry3- That security is maintained at all times and disruptive people will be immediately ejected.4- That an independent emcee be appointed - someone who meets the approval of both participants.5- That equal time be given to both speakers and that questions, when taken from the audience, can be answered by one or both speaker as the speaker wishes.6- That the debate take place in a capital city in AustraliaPlease forward this to your lists and let's see if one of the brave health professionals, doctors, immunologists, paediatricians or government health officials will be brave enough to accept this challenge. All the best,MerylOn 08/12/2010, at 8:11 AM, oufreshtideas wrote:

Hi all,

I saw this comment on the bottom of the article.

"Sheri Nakken, RN, MA" is in fact, the erstwhile homeopath and online educator for the anti-vaccination network known as The Australian Vaccination Network.

I must stress Sherri is not a pediatric nurse, any more than I, at 48 years of age, am a teenager of 30 years standing.

Sherri is of the mind that "no vaccines work". This is quite a claim and is indeed not reflected in this judgment. Classes consist of claims that most childhood illnesses including SIDS are vaccine reactions.

Claims perpetrated by the anti-vaccination movement are markedly in error. This is made worse only by the propensity to provide alternatives from the multi-billion dollar CAM industry, thus saddling themselves with their criticism of profit first, health second.
