Guest guest
I would bring her to a pediatric gastroenterologist. I've taken my son to good ones and bad ones. The good ones I always found through other mothers who recommended them. My son passed stool everyday, sometimes 2 times a day and when the gastro ped did an x-ray he found that his entire colon was filled with stool. We had to get aggressive with him drinking a ton of water and I found multiple ways to get fiber into his diet (which is challenging with a 4 year old) because I didn't want to take their suggestion of putting him on Miralax for 6 months. Extended use of Miralax has been known to cause chemical imbalances and dependency on laxatives. My son's pain was up in his stomach so your daughter might have something completely different BUT there also could be multple things going on. I'm not a doctor but based on what I have learned so far going every other day doesn't sound like her intestines are working the way they are supposed to. Apologies, I'm a worried mother late at night needing info from other mothers & this is the only place I know to get fast help...I already posted to OT4vax but with it being late at night here & the time zone I am worried I will wait too long for FB!My 3 year old daughter is in real discomfort tonight (Having done a normal stool this evening, a short while later she complained of pain in her bottom "where the poo comes out". Its not at all red or swollen, yet she has fretted way into the night unable to sleep. (asleep now - finally!).I have not much idea what the cause is & nervous of what I should be doing/not doing to help her. Can anyone help? She had a long period of constipation last year (which I now wonder if it was caused by milk allergy or such like) but since that she has settled into an every-other-day routine. Stools are soft & no longer hard, dry or balled. She has no trouble with them any more & is potty trained. I struggle to get her to drink enough. Pee can be a bit strong. Other than this, she is very healthy & eats reasonably well, although she definitely likes her carbs: pasta, rice, crackers etc.My only guess was that somehow she had got a hemorrhoid (not sure how with a normal stool?) so the only thing I found to do for a youg'un was to place an ice pack under her bottom, outside her pajamas. This seemed to help & she did fall asleep, only to wake up shortly afterwards in discomfort (I wasn't sure I should leave the ice there in case she got too cold). I really hope someone can give me a clue so I will know what to do in the morning! Her Dad felt we should whoosh off to the hospital at 10.30 at night. That's not something I would want to do with a tired toddler unless it was really necessary (I wish I had more faith in the staff we might meet there!) I was thinking that when I was this young it was still possible to call up our doctor & ask over the phone, decide if you needed to jump into action or not! Where we live there is nothing like that. Guest guest
I would also take her to a homeopath but if you don’t have one on hand, the regular doctor does serve for a  good DX tool Nita, mom to: 17, Jon 15, 13, 11, 9, Christian (7/16/03 to 8/22/04), 4, Isaac 2 and one cooking due 3/2011 http://momof6.dotphoto.com for possibly current pictures and http://nitasspot.blogspot.com Learn from the mistakes of others. Guest guest
Thanks for further thoughts on this. Unfortunately our local doctor proved a complete waste of time. He knew just about nothing intelligent about vaccines - or constipation. He told me some kids just DO go only every 3 days. I cannot buy that! I always felt it was wrong, but without knowing what else to do...?! We eat as healthy as I can manage: lots of whole foods & organic wherever possible. She does not drink enough, I know that, but 'you can lead a hoprse to water...' She owns more sippy cups of various design than any kid I know, in an effort to entice her. Her poos are now moist & easy enough, but rarely does she go daily. I live on an island so there is restrictions on lots of things, including doctors! It would be an international trip to find a specialist of any sort & I have no idea where to find a naturopath - anyone know of one in the Virgin Islands?!?! > > I would also take her to a homeopath but if you don’t have one on hand, the regular doctor does serve for a good DX tool > > > > Nita, mom to: 17, Jon 15, 13, 11, 9, Christian (7/16/03 to 8/22/04), 4, Isaac 2 and one cooking due 3/2011 > <http://momof6.dotphoto.com/> http://momof6.dotphoto.com for possibly current pictures and <http://nitasspot.blogspot.com> http://nitasspot.blogspot.com > Learn from the mistakes of others.
