I took my new puppy to the vet a few weeks ago and then I took him again today because he needed a rabies shot so I could get him licensed. He is just 4 1/2 mos old. This is my first dog and I am shocked at the number of vaccinations we give our animals!! They use the same scare tactics with your dog as they did with my children.

My first appt was at 15 weeks and He got the Distemper/ Parvo /??? combined vaccine. He was supposed to get one around 10 weeks but I put off taking him in. Then I take him in today and they ask me if I intend to get him groomed and when I said "Maybe" they said I needed to get the "kennel cough" vaccine. I said "not today". Then I get into the room with the Vet and she has two syringes. She quickly injects my dog before I had time to ask if it was the "killed virus" (thankfully it was) and she reaches for the next one and I say "What is that?" She says it was Distemper / Parvo/???? again. He just had it 3 weeks ago!!! I told her I didn't want to do it this time. I want to wait and not give them all to him at once. She said "Ok" but preceded to tell me horror stories of dogs that get parvo.

Then - non vaccine related the vet tech recommends that I take two of my dogs toes off when we fix him because they "tend to get in the way and get caught on things". They are toes! God made him with them.

Color me shocked - I had no idea animals were getting all this stuff too. No wonder our world is a mess.
