DPT and a correction to my post yesterday

Deb,

You ask if the DPT includes pertussis. Yes, DTP is diptheria,

pertussis, tetanus. Doctors used to just give the DT if requested

because the pertussis vaccine was causing a lot of bad reactions. I

guess that was the whole cell, before they went to the acellular,

which is safer, but weaker, and--it seems likely--is part of the

problem with resurgence.

To all: I'm sorry, I made a mistake yesterday when I said that

Elsevier was owned by Reuters. I did a little research online this

evening to make sure. As far as I know, they are giant, wealthy, but

separate corporations (though they jointly purchased Harcourt, the

Boston textbook publisher, in 2000). I used to work for a Thomson

publication which was sold off to a Elsevier publication, but

I'd forgotten.

Thomson-Reuters' revenues were 12.9 billion in 2009. It claims to be

the " world's leading source of info for businesses and professionals,

and the world's largest international multimedia news agency. It has

branches in financial, healthcare, legal, media, science, tax and

accounting. Sciencewatch.com is a Thomson-Reuters site. Similarly,

Elsevier owns legal, tax, scientific, business, educational, and

other medical publishing in North America, Europe, and Asia.
