The AVN is operating with a skeleton staff - we ask for your patience

Judy, our office manager, has gone away for a very well-earned long-service leave. At the same time, Janiece's mum had major surgery and did not come through it well so Janiece is only able to spend 1-2 days every fortnight in the office (you can't plan these things - we had it all worked out so everything would be covered while Judy was away...)The result is that most days, I am here on my own and though I am trying to keep up with the orders, phone calls and everything else that is involved with running our office, it's getting a bit hard.So though I will be manning (womaning?) the phones most days and getting the orders entered into the computer and sent out as quickly as possible, there may be delays as long as a week before orders that you place are filled and for this we are all sorry. Normally, orders are filled and shipped the same day they are received but at this point in time, that won't be possible and I wanted to let you know.Also, our latest edition of Living Wisdom has just arrived from the printer (and it looks great and has some pretty incredible articles in it too - please see below for further details).We will be getting the magazines off to you tomorrow (my daughter Annie has rolled up her sleeves to help - thanks Annie!) so if you call during the day, the chances are we won't be around to answer the phone - please ring back on Thursday or Friday if that is the case.I'm sure you will join me in wishing Judy a wonderful European sojourn (lucky thing!) and hoping the Janiece's mum has a quick and complete recovery. A Parent's Dilemma: Discussing Vaccination Myths by VAIS60 minutesVAIS (Vaccination Answers Informed Sources) has been operating in the Brisbane area since 1994. They have just produced their first vaccination DVD and the AVN recommends it highly! This is a non-confrontational, gentle way to introduce new parents to this subject.It uses role-playing to demonstrate the questions that new parents may (or should!) have regarding vaccination, the questions they may be asked by others, the pressure that friends and families may put them under once their decision has been made and more. Following the progress made by a fictitious pregnant couple, Greg and , and their friends, it shows the research parents can do to come to their own decision regarding vaccines. Their story is interspersed with interviews and information about shots (one of the best scenes for me was 4 'blokes' around a barbie talking about what decisions they had made and why - classic Aussie and wonderful in that it included men into what is normally considered to be 'secret women's business'!)The sound can be a bit fuzzy in places, but if you play with the volume in those sections, you will find that it isn't a problem.VAIS have kept the price of these DVDs quite low and we will be charging a special shipping cost of only $2.50 each so buy one for yourself and one for a pregnant friend. Thanks to the support of our members, the AVN is moving quickly in its efforts to ensure that fully referenced information on the side effects and effectiveness of vaccines reaches every Australian who is searching for it.
