Guest guest
It's just so stupid, isn't it? You should find out if that child, or any others in the school who have chicken pox, received the varicella vaccine. If they did, then why is your daughter at greater risk (or posing a greater risk) than the vaxxed kids? Seems to me that if vaxxed kids get chicken pox and spread them to other vaxxed kids, there is no justification for keeping the non-vaxxed kids out of school. Exactly! If the vaxxed kids get it anyway, then why exclude only the non-vaxxed ones? Makes no sense. Under their logic, *everyone* should stay home for three weeks! Guest guest
You know, the laws are different in each state. There might be a requirement for proof of a minimum number of cases to consititute an outbreak. It might be limited to certain diseases and not others. It also might require certain proofs of illnesses (blood tests vs. doctor's note), and different lengths of time to be out. Fact is, schools don't always know the law and could be overlooking what is actually required. Since yours apparently enforces excluding children during outbreaks, your child could be out of school for more than three weeks (in case other kids come down with it), and potentially miss a lot of school. But I do agree--it's worth whatever to keep the vaxes away. Guest guest
it is for the protection of your child - I guess so you can't sue them for giving you a disease or something Sheri At 03:36 PM 2/16/2010, you wrote: You know, the laws are different in each state. Guest guest
Well we are going to get her titer drawn tomorrow to see if she may already be immune...might get lucky and that way she can return to school. She has been exposed before and did not get sick....So we will see if she already has immunity andrea > > Well my 5 year old who has not been vaxed since she was 9 months (6 month shots at 9 months). > > She was exposed to the chicken pox of THusday fec 2nd. Guest guest
I just posted about the pox, but I am also reading through these posts on what happened, and I think it's absolutely outrageous that vaxxed kids come down with pox. And of course the pediatrician always says, that there is no guarantee in the vaccines. Of curse! > > It's just so stupid, isn't it? Guest guest
Not only do vaxed kids get pox they often get weird forms of it and don't gain immunity. I was reading on a blog about a teen who needed the pox vaccine for school not only did they get a mild case from the vaccine a few months later they got the pox again after being exposed to a friend who had it. ----- Reply message -----From: " nna P. Guest guest
You're right. It's worth it. Illness is definitely inconvenient, but Autism is a hell of a lot worse! And it's for LIFE! > > Well my 5 year old who has not been vaxed since she was 9 months (6 month shots at 9 months). > > She was exposed to the chicken pox of THusday fec 2nd.
