Antibiotics Weaken The Immune System

http://www.drlwilson.com/Articles/antibiotics.htm

excerpt

5. Immune Suppression. This may sound odd, as the purpose of

antibiotics is presumably to help the immune response. However,

evidence indicates that people treated with antibiotics have more repeat

infections than those who are not treated. This is especially true

of children whose ear infections are treated with antibiotics.

Vitamin A and C and the use of simple herbs such as echinacea and

astragalus, for example, are much safer and often equally effective.

In fact, antibiotics do

not aid the immune system. They replace one of its functions.

Antibiotics act by inhibiting certain enzymatic processes of bacteria,

and by changing mineral balances. Normal cells, however, are also

affected. This may be one reason why antibiotics weaken the immune

response. Other toxic effects of antibiotics, such as the effect

upon the normal bowel flora, may also be a

cause.

AIDS research indicates

that a risk factor for AIDS is an impaired immune response. This

can be due to a history of repeated antibiotic use. Perhaps it is

no accident the same group with the highest incidence of AIDS, male

homosexuals as of 2009, is also a group that uses more antibiotics

than other groups in America.

The link between

antibiotic use and increased cancer rates can also be explained this

way. This topic is discussed in the paragraphs above under #1.

Antibiotics Cut Off Immune

Response

Dr. D’Adamo says that antibiotics cut off immune response. Your

body’s responsibility for fighting an infection has been taken over by

medication.

He further states, “Did you know that antibiotics only reduce the level

of infection? Your body’s immune system is still required to finish the

battle.

When you allow your body to go to war on its own terms, without

antibiotic intervention, it develops not only a memory of specific

antibodies to the current infection and any similar to it, but also the

ability to fight more effectively the next time it is challenged or

attacked.”

As the invaders are getting stronger, our immune systems are increasingly

more ill prepared.

How Antibiotics Weaken The Immune System

Antibiotics are actually designed to help the immune system do its

job, and it may even do that in the short term, but in the long term

antibiotics actually suppress the immune system.

Firstly, medical antibiotics do not make the immune system stronger, they

simply act a replacement for one of its functions: killing harmful

bacteria. The immune system functions just like an organ or a muscle.

When it is not put to use, it atrophies. So when an introduced agent does

one its jobs, the immune system performs that job poorly once the agent

leaves the body. This is why someone who takes antibiotics to cure a

bacteria based disease may catch the same disease, only with more severe

symptoms, at a later time.

http://www.natural-cures-ear-sinus-infections.com/Antibiotic-Overuse.html

Repeated rounds of antibiotics,essentially antibiotic

overuse, made my son worse over the course of five years instead of

better, because his immune system was gradually becoming weaker.

As soon as he was done with a ten day round of the antibiotics the

following week he would be ill again. He became antibiotic

resistant and Amoxicillin no longer worked. Antibiotics at a price of

$200.00 or more with $30.00 co-pays became the norm. I was so frustrated

because I did everything the doctors told me to do and he was worse not

better.

This is because the toxins given off by Candida Albicans

overgrowth get absorbed into the blood stream causing various

allergic reactions, which weakens and wears down the immune

system.

SOLUTION: Break the cycle of antibiotic overuse and get the

digestive tract & the immune system healthy again the natural way by

restoring the good bacteria that occur naturally in the intestine.

The good bacteria are called friendly Flora or Acidophilus

Lactobacillus the stuff (live & active cultures) in yogurt. Only

you would have to eat buckets of yogurt so replenish a healthy supply in

your colon. BY taking Lactobacillus Acidophilus in capsule or powder form

you can reverse antibiotic overuse and boost the immune system. The best

L. acidophilus provides 1 to 1.5 billion live cells per dose.

Howenstine, MD. -

"

Excessive antibiotics in children almost certainly stops normal

maturation of a healthy immune system. Lack of healthy bacteria in the

intestines caused by antibiotics creates an environment in which pieces

of partially digested proteins are able to penetrate the barrier of the

intestinal lining. When these abnormal proteins enter the blood the body

properly reacts to them as foreign substances. The foreign proteins cause

an antigen antibody reaction producing symptoms and setting the stage for

a possible auto-immune illness to develop. Food allergies can also appear

along with impaired absorption of nutrients which may lead to poor

health. "

Dr. Lawrence - " To strengthen the immune system, one

must address the needs of the whole body.

A strong immune

system is essential for health. It is a very complex system of

the body, involving the skin, intestines, nasal mucosa, blood, lymph and

many other organs and tissues. Factors that impair the immune

system include nutrient deficiencies, contaminated air, water and food,

unhealthful lifestyles and too much exposure to harmful microbes.

Other factors that weaken the immune system are negative attitudes and

emotions and the presence of toxic metals, toxic chemicals and biological

toxins in the body. Others are sluggish metabolism, lack of rest

and sleep, excessive stress or too much exercise. As these

causative factors are removed or corrected, the immune system

improves. "

PREVENTING AND TREATING INFECTIONS NATURALLY

Page, N.D. Ph.D. - " What does the immune system really

do? Immune defense is autonomic, using its own subconscious memory to

establish antigens against harmful pathogens. It's a system that works on

its own to fend off or neutralize disease toxins, and set up a healing

environment for the body. It is this quality of being a part of us, yet

not under our conscious control, that is the great power of immune

response. It is also the dilemma of medical scientists as they struggle

to get control of a system that is all pervasive and yet, in the end,

impossible to completely understand. Maintaining strong immune defenses

in today's world is not easy. Daily exposure to environmental pollutants,

the emotional and excessive stresses of modern lifestyles, chemicalized

foods, and new virus mutations are all a challenge to our immune systems.

Devastating, immune compromised diseases are rising all over the world.

Reduced immunity is the main factor in opportunistic diseases, like

candida albicans, chronic fatigue syndrome, lupus, HIV, hepatitis,

mononucleosis, herpes II, sexually transmitted diseases and cancer. These

diseases have become the epidemic of our time, and most of us don't have

very much to fight with. An overload of antibiotics, antacids,

immunizations, cortico-steroid drugs, and environmental pollutants

eventually affect immune system balance to the point where it cannot

distinguish harmful cells from healthy cells. "

http://www.scumdoctor.com/vaccination/immune-system/Effects-Of-Antibiotics-On-Immune-System.html

Although antibiotics are actually designed to help the immune

system work well, this is so only when the usage is for a short duration.

Studies show that long-term antibiotics actually suppress the immune

system. There are several reasons that are responsible for the negative

effects of antibiotics. Firstly, it is important to comprehend that

actually antibiotics do not make the immune system stronger. They merely

act as a replacement for one of its functions, which is destruction of

harmful bacteria. However, just like an organ or a muscle that weakens

when not in constant use, the same principal stands true for the immune

system as well. Therefore, when an introduced agent does one of its jobs,

the immune system performs that job feebly once the agent leaves the

body. Thus, one must be careful with the consumption of antibiotics as

they weaken the system, meaning that the patient is more prone to

infection than before he or she took the antibiotics. Temporarily, the

infection may be killed, but one can get re-infected easily. When this

re-infection is combined with a more resistant strain of the bacteria

that caused the original infection, it can be very difficult to deal

with. This is why someone who takes antibiotics to cure a bacteria based

disease may catch the same disease, only with more severe symptoms, at a

later time. Secondly, antibiotics cannot differentiate between the

harmful bacteria and helpful bacteria and cells. Therefore, they end up

killing both kinds of bacteria. Certain strains of bacteria in the

digestive tract are essential to digest food and produce healthy

vitamins. The destruction of such bacteria results in vitamin loss,

diarrhea, parasitic infection and the development of allergies. Thirdly,

over the years, research in the field of Biology has highlighted that the

evolution of bacteria, viruses, and hosts have more or less been in

synchronization with each other. Every time a bacterium or virus became

slowly stronger, the immune system has shown proportional reactions by

becoming stronger as well. However, an over dosage of antibiotics can

create stronger strains of bacteria that even a healthy immune system is

not prepared to fight.
