Poll on right about swine flu vaccine. 46% scared more of the shot; 30% not, the rest not sure.

The reason I am looking at this site is because a friend is visiting in Arizona and said she heard that children were given the wrong vaccines. Oh, here it is:

“People can make mistakes.” Oh, well then, all is forgiven. And since are there different doses of any vaccine? Strange.

Flagstaff, Arizona clinic ‘over’ doses 7 children with H1N1 vaccine

Health department officials in Coconino County have admitted that several patients were given the wrong dosage of the swine flu vaccine at a clinic over the weekend. “They drew up too much of the vaccine into the syringe,” said Coconino County Health Department Director Barbara Worgess.

Seven children under the age of 4-years old were given shots with the dosage meant for children ages 5 through 18. They were given double the prescribed amount for their age.

“People can make mistakes,” Worgess said. “We try hard not to, but unfortunately people can make mistakes.”

The mistakes were made at the county’s main clinic in Flagstaff, where more than 700 people received swine flu vaccines on Saturday. Three student nurses and four experienced nurses each made errors.“That’s kind of a big mistake,” Flagstaff resident Tippets said.

“I was there,” resident Vaughn said. Her daughter got her swine flu shot at the same place that day. Word of the errors surprised her.

Parents like Vaughn, whose children were vaccinated correctly, still wonder about what went wrong. “I am going to be more careful in the future,” she said.

Health Department officials say they are looking into how these errors were made, and avoid more. “There are things that we are changing to ensure this doesn’t happen again,” Worgess said.
