Guest guest
Just want to chime in on this topic. Our week old baby had fever and I called Ped and he sent us in to hospital immediately scared the crap out of me. My instinct however was saying to wait it out a bit longer b/c he didn't show other signs of illness was breast feeding and peeing/pooping just fine. They did ALL the test in the hospital spinal tap etc. which showed high white blood ct. which my understand means ur body is fighting an infection of some sort. Anyway, they told us meningitis but unsure if it's viral or bacterial and immediately st. pumping him with antibiotics for entire 6 days. All this while baby ate and appeared fine and fever was gone too. Then 7th day they said Ok free to go it's viral and meds won't help he is fine fought whatever off himself. So basically I could of stayed home and avoided so much pain and heartache. They will always act n treat as worst case possible. He did mention that if baby was over 2 months they wouldn't of done so many tests so don't know why your doc said you would have to have spinal tap that isn't true. They only do that when baby is very young. NJ Re: new to all of this ... question... I am sorry you had to put up with such a bully. We hear stories like yours all the time, so unfortunetly your experience was not rare. But at least now you know that this doctor has nothing but anger and contempt for anyone who doesn't bow down to him. So in that sennse you are lucky to find out now. Yes, he was trying to scare you. But always keep in mind that he is/was in your employ. The world is full of much more caring health professionals that will work with you for the health of your children, not be a dictator that Mussillini would be proud of! Good job for standing up to a bully! I am sure he expected you to give in, so the fact that you didn't probably REALLY ticked him off! Sylvia > > Hello, > Thanks for taking the time to read this, > A few days ago, we took or 2 month old to see his ped. for a well visit checkup at which time we were told he would need his 2month shots, well I refused and said that we were looking to do an alternate schedule(now I am strongly considering not vaxing at all after doing more research) > Anyway, he became very angry and RUDE to myself and my children and basically told me I am harming my child and so forth. Then he told me that since I'm not vaxing that anytime my little baby runs a fever during the next year he would do a spinal tap to rule out meningitis! Is this true? It seems a little extreme to put a baby through all of that for what could be a common ear infection, uti etc. I am the first one of everybody I know to question vaccines and not vax so I'm not sure if this is typical or was he trying to bully me or scare me? His nurse then told me he would no longer see us if I didnt follow the cdc timeline for vaccinating, so I am not going against my maternal instinct for a dr that treats us like that. But if my baby does for some reason run a fever and I take him to the er or anywhere else will they have to do a spinal tap since im not vaccinating him??? > > ps... they tried to push more like 4 shots on my 4 year old that he isnt even required to have for another year! >
