Identifying Types of Bird Mites and wondering which ones burrow?

Hello,

Another fellow birdmite sufferer here hoping that someone can answer a couple

questions.

Does anyone know for sure how to identify certain types (species?) of bird

mites?

An exterminator said he thinks it is D. Gallinae based on some specimens.

I have mostly brownish / blackish specks with about half as many white /

transluscent ones and a few red ones.

However, the birdmites.org site states that:

If the mite is very tiny and whitish and occasionally seen as crimson red, then

it most likely is D. Gallinae, the 'red mite'. If seen as blackish, it would

more likely be O. Sylvarium, O. Bursa, or O. Bacoti. This family of mites tend

to be a bit larger and darker than D. Gallinae.

Does this mean that I might have more than one type of bird mite?

I thought that the D. Gallinae could also be blackish and was in fact called the

" black pepper mite " ?

Also, is it known for certain if D. Gallinae burrows or not? I have seen

conflicting information but know for certain that my ears are itchy, it feels

like something is living in my eyebrow, and I felt one bite the inside of my

nose and one try to burrow into my thigh!

UGH.

Anyway, any insight sincerely appreciated.
