I don't know whether anyone saw the relevance of this post. It would make appear ( & it makes sense) that people using Lysol ( & similar products) would make it even more effective if they add some high quality washing up liquid.

Great, Krys!I guess it is worth trying it, to see if things get better.Have a great weekend.CeciliaFrom: Krys Brennand <krys109uk@...>bird mites Sent: Sat, July 2, 2011 6:18:24 PMSubject: Re: Re: Smite-a-mite

Hello Cecilia,You already have the ingredients which they have used to make this product. It is Benzalkonium Chloride (BC), a surfactant (a good washing up liquid fulfils this requirement) & table salt. Your Benzalkonium Chloride is a strong concentration, so something like 1 part BC, 2 parts good quality washing up liquid & 7 parts water with a bit of table salt would make the identical product.

Their product is made for chicken houses where the red bird mite is pretty freqent but it would be fine in a human house too. All the bestKrysOn 2 July 2011 05:35, Cecilia Borg <ceciliaborg@...> wrote:

The product is made for red bird mites (Dermayssus gallinae). I was particularly interested because the active ingredients are Alkyldimethylbenzlammonium chloride aka Benzalkonium Chloride which is the same active ingredient in Lysol/Dettol (which people have been using with success) & a non ionic surfacant (a surfacant reduces the surface tension of water) & , sodium carbonate, (sorry I was wrong about the sodium carbonate I ought to have looked, table salt is sodium chloride). So I thought if people were using Lysol for spraying, they might try adding a good quality washing up liquid (which are high in surfacants) because it might make the mixture even more effective.

Hi krys

I used Benzalkonium chloride in a wash like it is used for Surgeons to scrup up

with , it is very very strong.

It is also used as a skin peeler for women in cosmitoligy

Benzalkonium chloride is also an ingredient in bactine .

The pharmacist at CVS pharmacy said Benzalkonium chloride is a penetrant ,

thus: in bactine affecting a ' feeling' on the bug bite area .

I used it on my feet for ring worm from a dog we adoted , it kills it in 2

days ( unlike any other medicine I found) . One day I put it on 1 foot , then

forgot to do the other foot & went back & reapplied it to the other & a 2nd

application to the 1st foot since I accidentley washed it off the 1 st foot . 20

mins later I had a terrible pain in the 1st foot the bone joint of the ankle

started aching , I could bare walk . I was in a motel to get away from the mites

at my apt & I could not walk to go pay the rent , it hurt for hrs , finally I

could walk but with terrible pain . I felt as if the Benzalkonium chloride had

deteriorated the ankle joint where I had broken the ankle 22 years before .

Agetr the anke injury had set & cured in a cast I had had no pain ever until

the Benzalkonium chloride was applied . This pain lasted for 1 year I stil

belive it was the Benzalkonium chloride had penetrated into the bone & disolved

the calcium that my body

had built up arournd the ankle break , making my ankle feel weak & painful for

1 year. .

Benzalkonium chloride is very powerful , I would be wary of braething any mist

if it is in Lysol .

on the other hand sodium carbonate : the active ingredient in Arm & Hammer

Powdered Laundry Detergent is the end of this bug , & hasn't caused me any

pains or discomfort in using it 1 cup per bath tub & 1 cup per gallon o water

in the garden sprayer .

God bless you Krys,

Bill .
