Guest guest
Hey - I forgot that's something I did too - cover the carpet at least 1/4 thick with earth diamacious and then covered it with plastic sheeting (shower curtains) wall to wall. Later when I realized they could still find me, I removed all the plastic covering, but the fine dust was terrible to remove, it set off the apartment alarm just like the time I burned crystals (burned my eyes, could hardly breathe, and ran outside, took me months to get rid of all that dust from the carpet, then samll white lumps appeared inside my mouth (still there today). On that, I learned later, someone else in the building was blamed for using drugs Actually, just today, I did the borax in my car, not sure what anyone would think if they peeked in the window and saw all the white powder all over the floor and seats. I suppose I would just tell them, I was trying to get the pet smell out. I have no pets other than mites. Police asked what is the smell , I said you mean the sulfur ..... All the firemen reared & tensed there axes ready to save the motel from a sulfur fire.. I said oh its my clothes they have residule sulfur creme on them & I was trying to boil the smell out The poiceman understood , but not the fire dept one bit , they orderd me out of the room & raced in with huge fireproof gloves & picked up the huge boiling steamer pot & rushed it out side in to the snow bank . Guest guest
Wow Doris! I wrecked one vacuum with DE since we couldn't tolerate it for too long and to later apply it again. I had it downstairs last summer to deal with the spider invasion which seems to happen every summer in this house. It does seem to help with the crawling of bugs. Maybe as Bill has done the baking soda operates the same way. The plastic on the floor reminds me of a good friend of mine with severe Environmental Illness... she has had plastic over her floors in her little apartment since I've known her. It is a weird experience to see someone living like that. The edges are taped down with duct tape. She had to do it to keep smoke out of her apartment since smoke was seeping through the floorboards. I really wonder what those white lumps are inside the mouth. I take the food grade DE for some time now. I kept what I was doing in the house pretty secret. We isolated 100% for a year except a few workers that had to come in for various things. I'd make things look as normal as possible because I felt so self-conscious about it. I am sure they wondered though and it was a lot of work keeping the lid on what was happening. No one ever asked, "what gives." Guest guest
Doris For my car I used orange guard. Some had good luck using bombs, like bio spot flea bombs. Air out well before driving and wash the steering wheel. Be sure and do the trunk to. http://www.orangeguard.com/ > > > > Wow Doris! No one ever asked, " what gives. Guest guest
I agree. Realized that Kenmore canisters are not made for fine particulate matter like DE, no matter how much filtration they have. Shop vacs are made for dust. Guest guest
Hi Healing hope By the way the Kirby vac is one of the only vacs that has a separate fan for drawing the dust up & another separate fan for cooling the motor it protects the bearings in the motor . I used to use shop vacs & sears we vacs for grinders with vac attachments on concrete , I would get 6 hrs before the vacaumm would sieze to no repair . I switched to a Kirby I found & it never sied I have used it fo oved 150 hrs on concrete dust , my plasterer friend taught me that after wreckng many shop vacs & wet vacs Kirbs are sold used at vac repair shops God Bl.ess you , Bill
Guest guest
Bill Thanks for the advice will keep this in mind. I have had luck with my shop vac. I especially like the fact I can wet the carpet first to get the DE up. My carpets are fine now since healed I do not use the DE in the house. My shop vac is a 5.0 horse and considered industrial perhaps this made a difference. Also making sure the foam filter was cleaned, especially when using wet. I bought the sweeper at Ace Hardware on sale for $59.00 usually $100.00. > > Hi Healing hope > > By the way the Kirby vac is one of the only vacs that has a separate fan for drawing the dust up & another separate fan for cooling the motor it protects the bearings in the motor . Guest guest
In fact it is on sale this month, just googled. Be sure and buy the foam filter also for wet applications, cost $8.00, and can be washed. http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3899086 & cp=1981689.125952\ 8 & origkw=shop+vac > > > > Hi Healing hope > > > > By the way the Kirby vac is one of the only vacs that has a separate fan for drawing the dust up & another separate fan for cooling the motor it protects the bearings in the motor .
