Thank you, I know there is more to this than the dermatologist knows. They found my son had damaged hair follicles, and left it at that , no help. I was thinking this may be those denotox mites, but the fact is that we were hit with the bird mites when the landlord sprayed the attic where there were 4 rotted nests swarming with fleas etc - the entry point was the vent in the shower. Maybe one thing just leads to another with the immunity system compromise so much?

Anyway, one dermatologist claimed 'delusional' and the other only offered symptomatic ointment to apply which does nothing when the whole body is infested.

Below is also what I have tried - all work slightly

Here are a few of my favorites - some of which you have already done:

-vics vapor run in problem skin areas

-burning menthol crystals in home via a mug warmer

-Borax in laundry and in hair

-food grade demacaous

I appreciate hearing from those who understand the problem - thank you.

I sure agree with everything said at this point, so thanks SBgirl for letting Doris know what has worked and not worked for you. I just got home, so I'll continue from where I stopped. It sure sounds like you have done a lot already Doris. I am so sorry for you and for your child. It is a miserable situation for you and for all others here. Do you have ANY idea how you got mites. Many of us have had contact with gardens. I had several connections, including a friend who had mites, so it was unknown to me which of these things could have caused the infestation. I believe it is possible yard work brought them in from the outside as I had done a lot of gardening right before the infestation, particularly cleaning up of garden litter. We had bird feeders and a dead bird near our door. We also had a dead rat near our door around this time.

The MSM has been important for me. I don't know why, but the mites seem to bother less with the MSM in the system. So many things have helped, including essential oils such as tea tree oil, Eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil all mixed together with oregano oil and spread through the hair with an eye dropper. I've made some huge mistakes getting it too near the eyes. Also have used flowers of sulpher available through some pharmacies, but may be a special order from a pharmacist.

I've realized just over the last few days that I don't have birdmites any longer, but do have Denodex mites... they are quite different from birdmites, but initially I think we did have birdmites. Now what I have are those Denodex mites that cause acne, biting the eyes, going into nose hair follicles, going into hair on the head, etc. They can invade other parts of the body too. These are not as bad as birdmites by a long shot. But anyway, the MSM helps with those too. I have what look like tiny little bites and a lot of bumps with clear fluid in them and white heads. These pimples and bumps which are caused by these strange mites come in clusters.

I've mentioned this so many times in the past, but for me it was worth my while buying a steam press. Made life a lot easier, instead of ironing. I physically could not handle all the ironing. All the physical work involved in this really broke me down physically, constant cleaning and vacuuming, not to mention spraying and doing laundry, pressing, and on and on. Husband helped a lot on week-ends, but he had to work and couldn't do that much so it was up to me. I was already retired, on medical disability. I didn't have to deal with having this spread to my work area or giving this to my children who were grown, married, out of the hosue already with children of their own. We did go occasionally to hotels like you have done for respite. Good to do if you can afford it. We did sleep on an airbed for a year and bought a simple frame at Ikea to put that on. We used the sticky tape

around the legs (fly paper) and I used a swiffer mop, vinegar and rubbing alcohol every night on the air mattress to clean anything on the bed. That was routine. Sheets were changed nightly and so were blankets which I had steam pressed. Pressing blankets is no easy task. We sprayed shoes with Windex, bought cheap shoes and tossed them after a while, and for some reason Windex seems to kill things, just as birdmites.org said. I did not care too much about toxicity back then because I felt we had no choice, but to try to kill the mites. Things gradually got better. We also bought a dehumidifier and ran that day and night for a long time. We moved out of our bedroom into our living room with almost no furniture. I sprayed the curtains too. We used DE for a while until our lungs were so sensitized from the stuff that we could hardly breath.

This stuff helps.

I'm currently using Food Grade DE just like SBgirl to kill parasites. For some reason during all of this I did develop Morgellons and I hope you do not. Some people with mites never develop Morgellons. I started maybe a couple months into having fibers come out of my skin. I still get fibers so that has not gone away. It appears to come and go. I have dozens of microscope pictures of my fibers and some pretty weird bug looking things that I can't identify.

What didn't work for me: PCO; Kaiser doctor didn't help; dermatologist couldn't help although I had a sympathetic one who also gave us Ivermectin and lots of creams for scabies. We tried everything they had. Try to get your body as alkaline as possible. What also helped me was doing some of Dr. Staninger's products, including her Far Infrared. Many of us are Vit. D deficient and magnesium deficient, not to mention low thyroid, so all these things had to be addressed. We saw a doctor who did diagnose Lyme Disease in both of us so we had to address that too. We continue to treat for that.

Hi Doris,

Did you move away from that apartment? If you haven't, I sure would, although I know some people say once they are on you they travel with you. This is always true, but you might reduce numbers. I've heard people say on birdmites.org that it is important to find the source and sounds like you know the source, at least most likely. There are advantages in living in an apartment; it is easier to leave without all the worries of selling a house that is infested to someone else and moral issues.

Tessi's responses were good. You've already done so much. If you don't have too many clothes anyway, I'd consider ironing them with steam to at least get to seams - mites love to live in seams. I think it was Tim, the admin here, that said that if you can shower or bath when they are most active, at night it gets rid of more of them instead of morning. I am using Borax directly on my skin with shampoo for the Demodex mites. Hasn't eliminated them, but reduces numbers greatly. Haven't had any head or facial crawling in a long time since I started that. I was shocked when I got onto a Demodex website at how similar the symptoms are with birdmites, as Demos are night crawlers too. I really believe I have had both. I'm going to be trying some products from China which I've ordered to get rid of the Demodex mites; a lot of people report success with the products. The Demos live in the hair follicles.

Yes - I do iron and steam my clothes (the ones which are not disposable!) - but perhaps a moot point if they are already on my body. And yes, I do bath any time they become active. For almost 2 weeks, I actually slept in a tub full of water til it was time to go to work. I could still feel them tickling just beneath my skin surface which was under the water!! My son has the same sensations when he lays in the water.

And yes, I have moved, they came with me!

I also have purchased the de-humidifier - again, a moot point if they are on my skin.

I am looking for something I haven't tried. Mostly, I would like to know what they are for sure. I bought a 400x microscope, but only see red stringy things - now the dermatologist took a sample of a bite and only determined damaged hair follicle. I want to know what they are so I can go on my attack and have it count. I often wondered, who are their predators? They must have some enemy which scares them away. How do I find a real entomologist with answers behind their world of experience. I am currently on a mailing list of internationl acarologists - mostly they are interested in the study of mites as it refers to profit (meaning effecting crops). I guess mites can also destroy huge crops of food on this planet!

But I am thinking China has more experience than anyone - they have cures that have worked for centuries, but they are cheap cures which the United States is not interested in - as they do not bring the profit which pharmecuetical companies are used to.

Please let me know if there is anything in the way of cure more than sympomatic.

I'll let you know if the Chinese products are helping me. Just ordered them 2 days ago, so it could be a while.

As whacked out as this might sound, I have taken to cleaning my face, ears and scalp with fire. When they're really active I can hear them crackling as I pass the flame over my skin. This must be, of course, done with great care as to not damage the skin. Scalp is much trickier, I hang my mostly bald head over a gas burner until I can't take it any more. This is not a massive help but it does let me clear the insanity momentarily. Similarly, a mixture high in clove oil is very caustic and can let me have a good day - you just have to be prepared for the initial burn on the skin. From: Doris Kennedy

Would a hot hair blower work too? I know I've tried to fry my scalp on many occasions and it does seem to help a bit.

I've tried some pretty risky things too, but nothing quite that risky. I wouldn't recommend it for most of us, but we do a lot of things out of sheer desperation.

Hi

At one time I used to use the hair dryer to try & heat the area where there was

a terrible itch under the skin. It was the deep ones on my back. I now feel they

live very deep , possibly even under possible burned scar tissue, from the hair

dryer , not that I heated it so hot that it burned visibly , I only left the

hair dryer, on the area just to the point I had to jerk it away. I hope they are

not hiding under scar tissue . The scar on my head from when I was 7 was a very

tough spot to conquer , I used arm & hammer powdered laundry soap 3 teasp per

cup o water on it daily for months . Finally it didn't itch anymore. As for

my deep ones on my back that somtimes itch , I use a cotton rag or tshirt

soaked in borax 1/2 cup per gal of water for 30 mins like a compress , it works

wonders. But for the face 1 tbls per borax is enough or the face skin bleeds

whereever there is a hole form the mites. The borax must draw very hard if it

can cause blood to

come thru the skin like that. One day I had 8 spots that bled & each spot

got a nasty scab o it . It didn't phase me though because, I have seen way worse

from this bug & some of the treatments . I knew all the skin would growback,

just like it all did ,when I used to use listerene on my head daily for months .

Listerene hurt a lot & all the skin on my face peeled but still didn't cure the

bug, ........ Pain is not gain for bug killing

but this really helped !

The mix:

2 tblspns borax (20 mule team Borax laundry booster

16 oz peroxide (3%)

32 oz water.

mix it , and the borax nuetralizes the peroxide

apply top of head to toe , try to keep out of the eye ball

)

And then came arm & hammer powdered laundry soap from skf on topix scabie forum

1 cup per bath & that was the end of the bug.

Still had crawling though ,

But thanks to linosama & her posting about coconut oil & herbs , the crawling

stopped for 1 year now . It also helped Rita a lot , it puts a barrier on the

skin that is healthy & resists bugs.

coconut oil 2 tbls in the tub will make your hair like brand new too ,

espsecally after a & h shampoos

God bless you ,

Bill
