Guest guest
My heart goes out to you and your family Cecilia. Please look at the files section of the site to see if there is any info there that is useful to you in your situation. Also, the check-out birdmites.org website for treatment strategies. I seem to have a different type of bird mite than most people on this site and what has worked for many people has not worked for us and so I want you to try things that worked for most folks even if it didn't work for us. The things that have worked for us are limited and in many ways very complex. Here are the main things for us: Laundry: At least 1 cup of either bleach (for whites) or ammonia (for darks) per load on the highest setting possible with an extra long rinse cycle. Let the clothes soak for a little while if possible (not absolutely needed though) in the washer. Never mix bleach and ammonia. Iron EVERYTHING possible just before you wear it. Keep all dirty laundry in sealed plastic bags or in tubs with double sided carpet tape around each one to caught escaping mites. Only wear clothes 1 time and then put them in dirty bins as soon as you take them off. Wear a ' house uniform' of a white comfortable shirt, pants, or other white clothes that are cheap and easy to wash. Buy 3-4 sets of these clothes to wear whenever you will be home for awhile and need to take off your street clothes due to ANY crawling sensations. Buy the cheapest stuff you can and let it get ruined by 100000000 washing. Many people like polyester slick materials for clothing because mites seem to like cotton best and it feels good on irritated skin. Cotton is good to though cuz it can be ironed on high heat. Our laundry was pretty good with the above suggestions. But was never 100% wonderful until we found BioKleen Plus enzymes. So see if they sell anything natural with enzymes and perhaps oxy boosters where you are at a natural products store. Perhaps it will be as good as BioKleen Plus. The regular biokleen detergent did NOT work to get mite out of our clothes. You will likey need something strong. We used borax and arm & hammer because it works for everyone else for laundry and the house. But we had no luck with it, even with soaking. We even sprayed it and left it on all surfaces of our house and had no luck with it there either. We took a full week of 'vacation' from work to do this and when it made no difference in the mite activity in the house I felt devastated. But this worked well for Bill and other so we had to try it. For the environment: -Vacuum: Your vacuum MUST have a HEPA filter. Otherwise the mites will be distributed throughout the house as you vacuum. We changed our bag daily or else we sealed it with tape and sealed it in a plastic bag in the freezer. We sprayed the inside and outside of the vacuum with WHITE vinegar and peroxide (one on top the other) inside and out 1 time a week. -Swifter dust: We like these better than the vacuum and use them as frequently as we can on all surfaces we have time to rub down. -Extra large 10 " EVERCARE tape rollers with the extra long handle. We buy refill rolls online by the carton. They are worth their huge price tag for us. We tape our bed (the thick plastic it is well sealed with) every time we change the sheets. We have found our very best mite specimens on this type of tape when searching with the microscope. Unfortunately, the entomologist only want mites in alcohol. But the taped ones look good to us. They are completely clear and so tiny they are not seen with the naked eye unless filled with blood. When we feel prickling, we tape all around us and ourselves. -I put sulfur dust (Bonide) dissolved in water with a sprayer in all the cracks and crevices at the floor boards and it dries to a chalky consistency.... but it is not okay to breath in so I use very very little of it and wipe away any visible yellow dust outside the crack that is extra that could get air-born over time. We had a thick coat of DE down over everything and a thick coat of Roach Prufe down over everything for about 3-6 months and each of them had no noticeable effect on the mite activity. However, these product helped so many other people os much that I still take 1 tablespoon of DE (foodgrade) in my breakfast drink daily, now I add a tsp of sulfur to the drink too. Yes, I am crazy I think. But nothing has worked for us like sulfur... -The house: The best things we did for our house is to get rid of everything we own that we absolutely did not need. We put everything we did need on plastic tables in plastic bins with 2-way carpet tape around them. We live like zen Monks. We dress in only things that can be washes and abused by 100,000's of washings. Internal stuff: We strongly think that mites were thriving in our digestive tract. That is why the Happy Tummy intestinal cleanse we do the first 10 days of each month is so important for us. It is horrible to think that they maybe in your urinary tract!!! Perhaps do something to clean out the urinary tract such as non-sweetened cranberry juice???? I don;t know anything about this stuff. Do sulfa based antibiotic clear urinary infections... perhaps this is an option...??? All these drugs can cause other problems though with fungal growth etc... so a good probiotic would be wise, etc.. if you go that route. I've gotta go to work now. I will write you more about our 'internal protocol' later. I know many other people did not benefit from an internal protocol, but we have very much. You and your 1 year old and everyone else suffering for this on this site are in my prayer. we will help each other through it. We all seem to have different mites and so different solutions are needed. z3 > > Dear Zoe! > If I should soak the wash, in what do I soak it and for how long? > How much bleach would you put in one machine of wash? > Is it white vinegar? Guest guest
Yikes! The charges really seem off for what might amount to 15 pounds or so. You might want to contact drugstore.com's international customer care department to double-check the rates. Their email is toward the bottom of this page http://drugstore.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1215 . My business uses international carriers & I've never encountered rates like that. Willing to look into sending what you want directly from me to you if you don't find a reasonable rate from customer service or another supplier. Send a private message to me if you'd like to explore that, including your city & postal code so I can get a quote. Try searching "orange oil cleaner sweden". The one below turned up on that search. When I have time later I'll google more. Here's what looks very similar to the Orange Plus out of the United Kingdom - http://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/cgi-local/frameset/detail/830590_Earth_Friendly_Concentrated_Orange_Mate_500ml.html Best wishes, Sue > >> > Dear Zoe!> > If I should soak the wash, in what do I soak it and for how long?> > How much bleach would you put in one machine of wash?> > Is it white vinegar? Guest guest
Hi Sue and ,I was going to send Cecelia some Cedarcide lotion and a few oz of Diatomecious Earth if she wants them. If you want to combine my stuff with yours it might lower the shipping costs overall and I would share the shipping charges with you. Write me at my personal email address. > >Yikes! Guest guest
I really wonder what they will charge you for shipping. Sent a package to Germany today which was less than 2 lbs (12" x 9" x 1" dimension... they wanted $30 to ship it Express). Much less expensive to send flat rate, but I knew it would not get there by Christmas from experience. I do not know what they open in customs and what they do not open. cecelia please hang in there, We will try to>come up>> > with doable suggestions>> >>> >>> > Can you stay anywhere else for a little while?
