Guest guest
Sandy, Buy a steam press... your clothing will at least be safe. Believe me, it works. We never got another bite from clothing after using a press. I would press after clothes were washed and put into plastic zip lock bags, husband's clothing separate from mine on shelves. For a while I did sheets too and blankets, and always did towels which were the microfiber dishtowels from Walmart. The steaming does kill them and you don't have to spend as much on soaps. What can I soak clothes with? I have read of so many things that peple use but I have been using the concrate from cedarside but this is getting expensive.I wash sheets daily and clean the floor.I have clothes that need to be cleaned and I thought the fumigation would take care of these but I can't trust that there is nothing in them. How can you tell if something is safe to wear?I keep most things in totes and I have a lot to wash that was fumigated but now I see these fuzz balls so I don't know if these clothes are infested.I don't have much to wear anyway.I am so afraid of things that might prick me.Is there a better soak that I can feel confiedent in?Thanks,Sandy

Guest guest
Hi pdidit, This is where I got my machine and for two years it has been the best thing since ice cream, well, almost. http://www.sewingmachinesplus.com/sing-esp2.php I did buy the stand as well. I go through the pads that come with the machine and they are $20 - it is like an ironing board cover. Still well worth it if you consider how much less detergent you are paying for over time. Guest guest
Cecilia, I don't know how big 600 g is compared with ounces and pounds, but the box I buy here in the US is 4 pounds, 12 ounces (76 ounces) or 2.15 kg. It costs me $3.00 for a box plus tax. I don't know how big 600 g is. Is there a way to convert this? I believe ammonia does kill them also, but as Bill said you have to be careful with ammonia. Very hard on lungs so stay out of the area while washing. I've used it liberally and do once in a while put it in laundry, but I don't need to use so many chemicals in laundry any more since I do use my steam press... have no itching from clothing and no biting from clothing. I'm not consistent about using the press any more because I don't seem to need to use it much. At one time I always used ammonia, Borax and a soap in all of my laundry loads, but don't need to do that all the time. Sometimes I use straight Borax with nothing else. I've always used at least a cup of ammonia to a wash and I use commercial ammonia, which is stronger. I also use the hottest water possible. Also I go by the rule that we never wear anything twice. Everything gets washed after one wearing, no matter what. Don't do sheets daily any more but 2x per week about. I do wash the coverlet every week too (synthetic). What can I soak clothes with? Guest guest
Hi, LInda! That would be about 1,3 pounds for the 20 dollars... Only in shops where they sell house paint etc. Can´t get it at a normal store...THe ammonia I tried was really strong and I only put like 3 tablespoons in to the laundry, so maby thats not sufficient anyway? How much Borax do you need to put in a laundry machine? Will be super expensive because of the prize here ...Thanks for sharing your knowledgeCeciliaFrom: "Goldstein@..." <Goldstein@...>bird mites Sent: Thu, December 2, 2010 11:49:14 PMSubject: Re: What can I soak clothes with? Guest guest
Hi Cecilia, How are you doing today? Well, I guess it is very late at night for you right now. Your time zone must be about 9-10 hours different than ours. I know my daughter's time zone is 9 hours ahead of ours. I would use in your washer if it is a larger sized washer capacity a whole cup of ammonia. You may have to use commercial ammonia for now because of the price of Borax there, unless you can find some Borax somewhere... maybe keep searching? do they have Boric acid there? What about diatomaceous earth? That is used I think on farms, so look in stores that sell animal feed, maybe. What about Boric acid? That is typically used to kill ants. It can't be used to replace Boric acid though. Vinegar is useful too and so is peroxide as Zoe recommended. Those are available anywhere. Also for the children I want to mention the use of sticky lint tape used for getting rid of animal fur or lint off of clothing. We have them here in various sizes. You can teach your 7 year old to use one on his/her body when they feel a tickle or bite. I think it gets rid of some stuff and gives them a sense of control. I use one on my feet every single night. I won't go to bed without running tape on my feet. We also have a large sized one here and I run it on the floor too (extra large for walls, floor, etc.). I keep a roll by the computer and at my desk. The tape is always full of fibers. I looked up on the post office website about what can be shipped to Sweden. I don't believe liquids can be shipped to Sweden from the U.S. So shipping Cedarcide might be out. From shipping frequently to Germany a disclosure must be made about contents and things do get checked. What can I soak clothes with? Guest guest
Cecilia, I've only been doing it for 2 wks, but I have had wonderful results soaking my clothes in olive leaf powder before washing. Guest guest
Hi Cecilia, What helped me alot was making the water as hot as possible. I turned my hot water heater up to 130 degrees. I also switched my hot water line going to my washer and the cold water line. So, my washer will do the rinse cycle in only hot water. I have no cold water going into my machine. I have the cold water line turned off. This solved my laundry problem. Heat kills these things, plus arm and hammer laundry detergent or borax. Rita used to soak her clothes overnight in a big bin. She would weigh her clothes under the water with bleach bottles filled with water, as weights. She said this solved her buggie problem in her clothes. The reason for weighing them down is so that the mites cannot reenter the clothes from the water line. De-Mite Laundry Additive worked for one lady. But, it's expensive http://www.shop.com/demite+laundry+additive Also, 100% benzyl benzoate, about one half of an ounce added to your wash, will kill mites. they sell this at researchsupply.net. You would find this under the "solvent" drop down menu. You can't use alot of it though, as it may damage the lining in your dryer, but the clothes get a buildup of this stuff on them and stay mite free. http://www.researchsupply.net/solvents_etc.html if you mix Benzyl Benzoate, about 20% with rubbing alcohol 80%, it can be used as a scabicide topical. Just be careful putting it on sensitive skin or wet skin. Can only be mixed with rubbing alcohol, as lotions do not mix well with it.
