In addition to that I was thinking that it might be worth it to have the duct work and dryer vent cleaned. It is really expensive and would be a stretch this time of year but if we are going to try to stick it out in this house I wanna be waging war on all fronts. Anyone tried this? Do you think it might stir things up or help? Also, my kids are begging to decorate the house for Christmas. I am sooooo scared to take my boxes out of the attic - but how do I not put our our holiday stuff? like their pictures with santa and ornaments and things - their lives have already been turned upside down by these bugs. Perhaps spray the Christmas decorations with orange guard, safe and festive. Or cedarcide. If wanting to treat for mold a fogger and chlorine dioxide would be a better investment, I would think. I also use a lot of fresh greens in my decorating which are then tossed. Have the kids make garlands of popcorn and cranberries which you can also toss afterwards. Make a lot of small bows for the tree which you can toss too. We use to make ornaments by sticking cloves into oranges and letting the dry out, also good deterent. Maybe just a few... maybe avoid the ones that are made of fabric or unpainted wood. Anything should be okay except fabric and paper, if you fog. You could fog with MMS or Cedarcide or some of the other things that have been suggested here. The fogging would allow you to put some ornaments up safely. Fog them before you store them again too. And of course there would be no harm at all in putting ornaments outside, like lights. I realize how hard this is with young children. So sorry! Guest guest Posted November 30, 2010 Report Share Posted November 30, 2010 I do have the Cedarcide fogger....I've used the Cedarcide mix in it, along with Bill's mix of windex, epsom salt, water & coconut oil. I do have mms but I have been too scared to try it internally so maybe I will add a little of that in the fogger. Great idea to fog this stuff....quick, easy and hopefully effective. As for the duct work - you are right - they basically just suck the bad stuff out. I figure it might help improve the air quality around here since we used every chemical known to man in order to try to kill the mites at the beginning of our infestation. I am going to try the oranges and cloves - that is a great craft idea for the kids and if it helps fend off these pests in the process I am all for it...also, buying fresh garland this year. I don't know why I didn't think of that....maybe because I have all these crates of Christmas decorations but fresh is best, anyhow, so that is what we are going to do. Sometimes I find with this disease it is so hard to solve even the most simple issues...everything becomes problematic and it's hard to be a great problem solver 24/7 so thanks for the good ideas! > > > > > > We are going to have our house assessed for mold. Guest guest Posted November 30, 2010 Report Share Posted November 30, 2010 Hi SBgirl I hold a gardin sprayer at the vent & use a leave blower behind the nozzel of the sprayer to fog the vents way down deep , it works great . I use a $23.00 weed eater brand leave blower from wallmart & blow borax mist water from a chapin gardin sprayer from ace , both are top quality brands & I have use them for many years 1 cup borax & 1 gal hot hot water beaten well with a knife handle for 15 seconds in a pail of cut off milk jug to disolve borax well. It is beat to spray the vent 1st to soak the bug & not blow it up at you with the leave blower . I turn the furnace off while doing it & never use any coconut oil in the mix around the running furnace , Coconut oil is a solid at 76 degrees & ruins bearings in furnaces & hair dryers quiclky , other wise 2 tbls coconut oil is a great bug stopper in any mix , & won't go rancid , $4.99 for 31.5 oz of Louana's coconut oil at grocery next to the olive oil .
