Guest guest
I am wondering what others think about the state making yearly physicals such as a well child visit/physical, eye doc. visit, check their hearing visit, etc. in order to attend school. Sure these visits may have benefits but should the state require a medical exam just to enter school? Is this even consitituional according to others? I am not talking about a mandatory pap smear like used to be required by one school when my cousin was going to high school in order to attend a particular school. It is quite obvious that is a major violation of civil rights. I am speaking of the less embarrassing / painful exams. April
Guest guest
Funny you should ask. I just discovered at the CT Dept. of Health website that physicals are NOT required, that parents can object in writing based on religious grounds: Sec. 10-208. Exemption from examination or treatment. No provision of section 10-206 or 10-214 shall be construed to require any pupil to undergo a physical or medical examination or treatment, or to be compelled to receive medical instruction, if the parent or legal guardian of such pupil or the pupil, if such pupil is an emancipated minor or is eighteen years of age or older, in writing, notifies the teacher or principal or other person in charge of such pupil that such parent or guardian or pupil objects, on religious grounds, to such physical or medical examination or treatment or medical instruction. I'll bet other states have something similar but who knew? I was always told you had to do it and it could be done by a naturopath in the public schools. Now I find it's not required at all! Not sure if it would be a problem for school sports. Winnie Wondering what others think about... Guest guest
I think it is totally ridiculous. I think it should be left up to each parent as to how they choose to raise their family. Our kids get their dental check ups twice a year, eye check ups once a year. None of them have been ill to see a dr. in years. We seem to be able to fight off illness on our own. I do not care to take them into a dr. office with a bunch of sick kids around for a well child check up. What a great way to get sick - sitting in the dr. office for 4 hours with an appt. while around sick kids. I guess this is what works for us while something else might work for others. I think I had the flu for the past week. I had all the symptoms. No one else in my family has come down with it and I was able to fight it off on my own with no meds. Feeling much more human now.
