Guest guest
To whom it may concern: In reply to your article today, Complaint against anti-vaccination group, a piece which labels the Australian vaccination network as not only anti-vaccination but militant (the mind boggles!), it is time to set the record straight regarding what our organisation actually stands for - something which good journalistic practice would have seen you investigating prior to publishing this piece. The AVN is a non-profit volunteer-run organisation which supports the right of all Australians to make free and informed health choices. We never have and never will tell anyone that they should or should not vaccinate - that is a parent's decision. We simply fill the information void left by a government and mainstream medical community which consistently claim that unlike every other issue in the world, when it comes to vaccination - there is only one side people should be made aware of. In contrast to the claims in 6Minutes, the AVN never has and never will recommend that parents use homoeoprophylaxis (which is its proper name) or herbal remedies. We are not health practitioners and giving medical advice is not our role. We certainly have published articles on both of these subjects in our magazine - Living Wisdom. These articles were written by the top experts in these fields. These articles empowered parents to examine the issues for themselves and begin to weigh up what was best for their children. Vaccines have been linked in the medical literature and in court documents with autism, minimal brain damage, asthma, eczema, MS, paralysis, food and environmental allergies and a host of other conditions - both chronic and transitory. There have even been deaths linked with vaccination over the years - deaths which have been acknowledged by governments around the world. In a nation like Australia which sees over 18,000 people die each year in the public hospital system alone due to preventable medical error and hospital-borne infections, one would think that 6Minutes would find something more useful to do than to criticise an organisation which provides referenced material to parents who are trying to take responsibility for their family's health.
