Guest guest
You should see pertussis in a child with asthma! My son, fully vaccinated against pertussis, just had pertussis in Feb. He also has asthma, most likely a side effect of the Dtap vaccine. He missed over two weeks of school and did not sleep through the night for two months due to coughing. Because of his vaccine induced asthma, his case was much worse than any of his peers without asthma. We even had a trip to the ER because he was not getting relief from his nebulized meds. The Dtap vaccine did not prevent anything and probably made things worse by causing his asthma. > > I need some answers the help me here, my baby is 4 months old, I'm obviously NOT comfortable vaccinating him at all, but at the same time I'm not 100% comfortable not giving him any and I need some more info- not too much info- lol, but just some good answers to some questions I am having trouble with: > > 1. PC- ok, so the main reason to possibly get this vaccine is to prevent meningitis- bacterial meningitis- which can be deadly and very serious, correct? I have read this doesn't prevent all types of bacterial meningitis and of course not the viral kind- but that's not as serious as the bacterial kind, right? Meningitis does freak me out, I would feel HORRIBLE if my baby got this and I could have prevented it with a vaccine.... so I need more insight into this one....... > HIB is another meningitis one, right? Pertussis- This is something else that does freak me out, I've looked online and seen videos of babies with this and it does freak me out, again I'd feel HORRIBLE if my baby got this and I could have prevented it. We breastfeed, delay solids until after 6.5 months, limit chemicals although I'm not one of those fanatical organics with everything organic or chemical free, we're middle of the road, so our house does have some chemicals. Also we do go out a lot, live in a fairly big city, I have a 6 yr old also so we're out all the time in crowds, so this baby will not be isolated for 2 yrs........ >

Guest guest
I got my son over his asthma with my naturopath. She gave him an herbal tincture, quercetin, a homeopathic med and we cut dairy, oranges and corn out of his diet. The nebulizer did nothing. Guest guest
My dd had all the vaccines except the MMR when I finally started realizing I had options, back then I was naive.. anyway, since age 1 she's had none, we go out everywhere and she's far from isolated, she's homeschooled but we're in a large coop, we go to the mall, disney, bday parties, church, pools, etc and she's yet to have measles or mumps, never had rotavirus that I know of (they had taken that off the market when she was a baby), she is also rarely sick too, she hasn;t had a check up in years. We're also not super fanatical health nuts, I buy half organic (meat, produce, etc) and half conventional, we eat bad stuff sometimes (hotdogs, preservatives, etc) but try to eat whole foods as much as possible, we do go to McD occasionally and stuff like that, we don't use only natural cleaners, etc, it's all in balance. The other thing is that I just don't want to be afraid to take my baby to DIsney because he's not vaccinated or not to take him many places until he's 2. Although we've been out almost every day since he was born because of my older child, we've been to bday parties with him, Ollie Koalas, stores, museums, libraries, church, etc. Our lifestyle isn't that we can keep him very isolated so that scares me some... > > Yep.. remember only hindsight is 20/20 but I have an 8 y.o. boy, never > vaxxed. Guest guest
The full series of 4 shots is " needed " for protection (meaning some 40-80% AFTER the series, depending on what you read). The first three are when the baby is 6 months old or younger. So, virtually no protection JUST RISK for babies. Winnie .. Re: Need help on deciding to selectively vaccinate.... Guest guest
That's how I used to feel, too. When I first read about the dangers of vaccines, I wasn't comfortable vaccinating my daughter, but I was still afraid she might get a disease that I thought could be prevented by a vaccine... But then, the more I read on the subject, the more I realized that not only are vaccines dangerous, but they are also completely useless. They don't protect against anything and they weaken a person's immune system. My two year old daughter is completely unvaxed, and she is one of the healthiest children I know. My advice to you is to keep reading on the subject, because it is important not to make a decision you might regret later. Remember that vaccines can't be taken out once they are shot in your child's body. I know that making choices as a parent is not always easy, and that's why it is very important to get as much information as you can to make your decision. :-) > > I need some answers the help me here, my baby is 4 months old, I'm obviously NOT comfortable vaccinating him at all, but at the same time I'm not 100% comfortable not giving him any and I need some more info- not too much info- lol, but just some good answers to some questions I am having trouble with: > > 1. Guest guest
My neighbors don't vaccinate their kids. They have four: 8, 6, 4, and 2yo. Healthiest dang things I've EVER seen. They run around all day, barefooted, on a rocky, dirty farm with animals, manure, animals, insects, etc. You name it. I've NEVER seen the kids sick other than the sniffles. The Dad said he wasn't vaccinated as a child either. LOVELY family. Just my $.02, Bobbett
Guest guest
I can interject here. My father was a chiropractor. I was not vaccinated and never had one issue that required a doctor. I only got a few colds and stomach flu but that was maybe once a year and then my dad would adjust me and I was better the next day. That being said, my parents divorced when I was 11. My mother rushed me down to the health department for my MMR, DPT and Polo vaccinations. Guess what? I started getting ear infections shortly after and began to gain weight. I think my thyroid was destroyed because this continued through out my early adult years. I had heavy constipation and rectal bleeding. Then when I was 34 years old I had my first child and was dx'd with thyroid cancer shortly after that (4 mos). I started vaccinating my children (because that was what the pediatrician said I should do and all my friends did) but stopped my son at 5 and my daughter at her 18 mos shots which were given to her at 2 1/2 because I was starting to doubt my choices. I wish I had never done what I did to them and now I am working hard to heal their guts and immune systems. We have spent a lot of money on this. They are healthier now than when I vaccinated them. My son got ear infections within 7 days of each vaccination. My daughter had many of them too but her records aren't as easy to read as my Dr kept crappy records for her and we were using more chiropractic for her than antibiotics by this time. Neither child has had an ear infection since stopping the vaccinations - and the trips to the pediatrician. We have them on thyroid medication and supplements and they are sick only one time a year with a cold for about 2-3 days. The problem I see with doing some and not all is explaining why you did that. I have a struggle now with starting and then stopping. I have to explain over and over why I changed my mind. I can tell them in a way that I was very sick fighting cancer when I did this and when I began to get well I started concentrating on more than my own health. Re: Need help on deciding to selectively vaccinate.... I absolutely agree with what you say Venita! Last night, I did a webinar with Cyndi O'Meara (http://avn.org.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=854 ) who is one of my absolute heroes (heroines? LOL) She is the daughter of a pharmacist who decided that drugs were too toxic so he studied to become a chiropractor and he raised his family in the chiropractic tradition. Cyndi is 49 years old and has never had a vaccine. She has never had an antibiotic or any other pharmaceutical drug. Neither have her children. Her 19 year old son broke a bone last year and after all the essential oils and other remedies she was giving him were not able to ease the pain enough for him to get some sleep, she gave him one single panadol. It was the first time he got a drug and it stopped the pain for over 13 hours! Because he did not have a body that was so used to drugs they no longer work the way they should. Her family and its health status is what everyone wants - whether they are for or against vaccination. The thing is - how many vaccinating and drug-using families can say that their children are that healthy? I don't know of any, sadly. Guest guest
Great thread. Thanks to all of you for reminding me why I chose not to vax anymore. I'm having my baby boy this Fri. and feel confident in our decision. How I wish I knew the dangers 6 yrs ago, could have prevented my older 2 from all the illnesses they have endured. I too was very torn b/c although I feared vaccine reactions I also thought my goodness what if this child gets very sick with measles or whooping cough etc.., how will I live w/myself? Then I realized they can still get sick with any disease b/c vaccines are not proved to work or be safe and effective. I'm much more afraid of vax than of childhood disease. I see everyday how children suffer and I want to scream on top of my lungs, " IT'S FROM THE SHOTS " WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but these moms do not want to hear it. My sister in law just called crying other day b/c her 1 yr old has yet another double ear infection and extremely high fever. So what does she do tylenol and antibiotics just more harm to his little body. Anyway, good luck with your decision. You have to be 100% sure and you'll do what feels right. Follow your instincts don't let any Dr. pressure or intimidate you. Do your research, listen to these wonderful folks on here they are very knowledgeable and have been there. I'm so lucky to be here and know that we're all here for each other and fighting for same thing! We breastfeed, delay solids until after 6.5 months, limit chemicals although I'm not one of those fanatical organics with everything organic or chemical free, we're middle of the road, so our house does have some chemicals. Also we do go out a lot, live in a fairly big city, I have a 6 yr old also so we 're out all the time in crowds, so this baby will not be isolated for 2 yrs........ >
Guest guest
Looking back, my dd did have all her vaccines up to a year and then I didn't do the MMR and stopped any other boosters after that. Anyway she didn't seem like she was hardly sick, she got her first cold at 8 months, that wasn't right after a vaccine. She did get an ear infection/cold/virus at 17 months- again, not right after a vaccine, and then I think she had a case of the flu around 22 months and hadn't had vaccines for awhile then. After that she just had maybe 2 colds a year, she did get a mild case of scarlet fever at age 3- just the rash though, no other symptoms. Now since she turned 3 maybe when she would get a cold she'd get a bad lingering cough with it. I'm not sure how often, maybe a few times a year since, she had one in March when I was 8 months pregnant, then she got it again just last month- but my baby didn't get sick at all from her and we all cosleep, etc. I didn't take her out hardly at all the first year or two, with him I take him out everywhere. He's been around people with colds and didn't get it either, in fact I had a cold when he was born! Anyway my dd's had a few stomach virus where she might throw up a couple times, have a fever off and on, this might happen once a year or so, but it just doesn't to me seem like she's sick that often because we haven't taken her to a dr in years and compared to my friends kids who are in school they are forever on antibiotics, etc and it's insane! Anyway, so basically I don't think vaccines directly caused problems with my daughter... now one thing she does have is Selective Mutism... she was high need from birth though so I don't know... but she seems fine otherwise, healthwise, etc. I just worry about boys being more vulnerable to vaccine reactions and I'm just not convinced that they're safe enough, obviously, but I still can't let go of the guilt for not getting any for him.... > > > Yep.. remember only hindsight is 20/20 but I have an 8 y.o. boy, never > > vaxxed. Guest guest
Once you learn more you will understand these things don't need to happen RIGHT after a vaccine to have been caused by one. Some side effects happen months or years later. My two kids are seriously never sick - if they do get a snotty nose or something it lasts a few hours! My son was sent home last year at lunch time because he had a fever and was snotty. He was FINE that morning - and FINE by the next morning. He did sleep all afternoon, but bounced right out of it. My daughter does sometimes carry the snotty nose a couple of days, but it doesn't slow her down one bit. My son had one ear infection when he was around 3 or 4, and I didn't know about it till the morning when his hair was all sticky and matted on that side when he woke up - he never complained of pain at all, and slept that entire night through. My daughter has never had an ear infection. Keep reading folks stories here, and you'll get the general idea. Chelly Vaccinations From: kristi3003@... Guest guest
THanks, I put them on hold at the library. I don't see the ped again until Oct anyway. At 2 months I KNEW I wasn't vaccinating yet but I was bothered by the guilt trip she'd give me. She's holistic but I still get that underlying guilt trip feeling from her. She's the only one in the city that will support not vaccinating though... I thought I'd make a final decision by the time he had his 4 month check up, at first I was going to maybe do a shot at 6 months, then I thought that'd be too late so I thought I'd do one at 4 months, but for the past month I've just been so back and forth with it, I read some Dr Sears book and the ROmm book, a few others I skimmed, but it didn't help..., then this past week I couldn't sleep because I was just so bothered by what to do, I'd pretty much decided that I needed to at least get him one just to be safe for him... but just looking at him being so happy was just killing me, then today for his 4 month checkup I saw the NP instead and she's antivax and she just told me not to do any right now, wait and think about it first. She was the one who saved him from getting one today..., I actually had an appt for my older one too since she's not had a check up since she was 2 I think, or 1, I can't remember, anyway, her dr had convinced me also to consider getting her the Dtap booster to protect the baby should she get a bad cough, but I called last week and cancelled the appt because I jsut can't give her anymore shots ever....! I'm just glad today I didn't do any, I walked out of that office totally relieved feeling, like a weight had been lifted. At the same time I'm still scared but better for now! > > Yes that is what my chiro said too. I was impressed with them. Guest guest
Our lives are so similar it seems Steph. My dad is a chiro, he didn't want us vaccinated as kids either - but my mother took us out to get em all.... we were three kids, and we still got Measles, pertussis etc. after getting the shots. My first copy of one of Neil millers books was loaned out and I never got it back. I wasn't all about NOT vaccinating till my son was born - and suddenly I started to feel that there was something just not right about it.... turns out my instinct was RIGHT! I have read mixed views on this, some say pertussis is very common, some say babies die from it, even healthy babies, others say it's jsut a bad cough and not HORRIBLE, some say it's not that common, I just don't know what to think about it.... > > > > Chelly > > > Vaccinations > > From: ladybugsandbees@... > > Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2009 22:49:19 -0400 > > Subject: Re: Need help on deciding to selectively vaccinate.... > > > > Yes that is what my chiro said too. Guest guest
With my dd I jsut didn't know, and didn't question. I remember her 2 month visit she got 4, I can't believe I did that now. UP until then she'd literally NEVER cried, never, and that visit she SCREAMED when they did the shots, she stopped right away when I nursed her but I felt horrible, I burst into tears. But I still did the 4 month, 6 month, etc thinking that's what she had to do. Now my son is different, he's very mellow but he CRIES!!! My dd was so so so quiet, my son is loud, he's a very happy baby but when he's hungry or bored or tired he cries so loud, not for long but I'm just not used to it and he does have some days he's just fussy, restless, not sure why, I haven't done a diet check to really see, but he just has his fussy days, otherdays he's fine. That bothered me though thinking that then how could I tell if he did get a vaccine reaction because he's fussy some days anyway... another thing that did bother me at his 2 month visit when I was discussing vaccine reactions with the dr, and one common reaction is crying for a few hrs or so. I asked his dr about this and she said that it's common, they do cry for a few hrs, that's very common, I even asked her if she was serious about that, HOURS?! She said yes, like it's just one of the side effects... that still sticks with me though, to me that's not a normal, MILD side effect. > > > > Yes that is what my chiro said too. Guest guest
I was too young to remember them - LOL probably a good thing. My mother has long since passed on, but I do remember her complaining that my brother and I got it (pertussis) at the same time and it was HELL for her. I think my sister got it first, then my brother and I - and it lasted a long time from what I can remember her telling us. (she liked to remind us of the trouble we caused! LOL) My brother and I always got everything at the same time, and my sister either after us or before us. My sister also had a bad reaction to one of her shots, I can't remember which one I was very young (she's 3 years older than me) I do remember it was a shot given in the butt cheek. The thing is, no matter how " bad " these things are, kids recover if they get them, and there is very seldom any lasting effects. I think my sister got a scar on her temple from a chicken pox mark - and thats about it! We were lucky not to suffer life long reactions, and who knows if any of our ailments now could be traced back to those worthless shots we got. (my sister has allergies to wheat and things like that) The reason you hear conflicting stories could be either people confuse pertussis with something else, or each child having different strength immune systems. Some children are much weaker (vaccines help MAKE it weaker) and those kids will be sickly and have more intense symptoms. Others will hardly even know they're sick! Vaccinations From: kristi3003@... Guest guest
I think he is STILL mad. They did get divorced when I was very young, they were very different in so many things. Sometimes different people compliment each other, in their case they just argued about everything! LOL My dad is very thrilled with his grandkids, both my kids and my sisters are un-vaxed. (I think he brags to his patients!!) Guest guest
One thing I don't understand is people upset that a nonvaxed kid could pass on something to others or to older people or babies. Anyone could pass something on to a baby! And vaxed kids theoretically should be " safe " , and older adults are adults, they should be getting boosters if that is any concern... so that bothers me that I have people who think we're hurting society and all that... > > > > > > > > Chelly > > > > > Vaccinations > > > From: ladybugsandbees@ > > > Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2009 22:49:19 -0400 > > > Subject: Re: Need help on deciding to selectively vaccinate.... > > > > > > Yes that is what my chiro said too.
