Guest guest
The following article from the New York Times describes a situation that is happening all over the world. Times are hard. People have less income and some of them are making tough decisions about what they will and will not be able to spend extra money on when money is pretty scarce. These decisions have far-reaching effects and though a container of organic milk may cost 50 cents more or organic eggs might cost an extra $1 a dozen, the cost of not buying these goods can be much higher. If we do not support organic producers, our health will suffer, the world will suffer and in the long run, we may end up regretting that we made the choice based solely on finances. If we want to live in a better world, we will need to prioritise our resources. Perhaps spending money on organic food means not going to the movies or getting rid of the cable contract. Maybe it means taking a less expensive holiday or eating out less often. If we want to be healthier and don't have a lot of money, we may have to look at what we need to give up in order to visit a homoeopath, naturopath or chiropractor rather than a GP that is covered by our health insurance. It all comes down to what we think it really important - our bank balance or our family's well-being. Sometimes these choices are harder than others - but it IS a matter of choice - and the decisions we make today - one way or the other - will reverberate further then we ever expected. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/29/us/29dairy.html?_r=2 & emc=eta1 Meryl Dorey, National President The Australian Vaccination Network, Inc.
