I wouldn't do anything about him. If he gets them, he gets them. If it's true

CP, you want him to get them anyway. You can use homeopathic meds for it.

What I would do, if you haven't already, is ask the nurse if the kid who has

them has been vaccinated. If she doesn't answer, you know he/she was.

Then tell the nurse you assume she'll be calling all families to warn them the

vaccine isn't working and they're all at risk. But I wouldn't try to prevent him

from getting them.

Send him to school as usual. If he gets it- consider yourselves lucky- he will

be immune and safe from cathcing it when he is older -that is when there is a

slight possiblity of cp getting a little more dangerous.

Chicken Pox In School

I received a call from the school nurse today stating that Chicken Pox was going

around school and she wanted to warn me since my son is not vaxed (there is also

1 other unvaxed child in the school). I am wondering if there is something that

I can do to perhaps help prevent him from getting them or if he does get them,

how can I make him more comfortable/symptoms less severe? Should I keep him out

of school? I'm not too worried about it even though I would like to prevent it.

the only thing is we don't know that getting them

from someone who is vaccinated (vaccine-strain

variety) is the same as getting it naturally but

nowadays, who knows where you can get a natural

case, if indeed they are catching and I'm not sure we catch things either.

I've been trying to expose my boys to chicken pox for years! Whenever I hear of

a case, I find out their number and call them up for a play date :) I'd much

rather them have it naturally now while they are young. Chicken pox in an

otherwise healthy child should present no complications, although my child's

pediatrician will argue with me on that! From what I've read the 2nd child in a

home usually gets a more pronounced case from continuous exposure from a sibling

verses a random exposure outside the home. I don't know all the facts on that

as I'm still just trying to find more kids to expose mine too.

I do have a suspicion that both my boys may have had a mild, subclinical case of

it. Both had a few, non-descript pimply bumps, and were cranky around 3 weeks

after the first exposure (I've exposed them 3 times). I'm not sure if it was

just wishful thinking or nothing at all. I will have a titer taken on them when

they are older. My youngest was 18 months during that exposure and I was nursing

him at the time so he may have been protected anyways.

If your child does get it, Aveeno has an oatmeal bath and anti-itch cream.

Others may know of better, more holistic products.

I thought you only " caught " it or " got " it if your body needed it and I was

wondering the same thing about getting laboratory " chicken pox " (pox from a kid

who was vaccinated). Would that even give you true immunity?

> Yes, I found that to be true about the siblings getting it worse. My older

three all had it within two weeks. My oldest had maybe 200 pox, the next had

about 500. My third had so many I couldn't count them. They were everywhere, and

I mean everywhere (poor diapered little guy!). I was nursing him, too--he was

almost two years old at the time.
