Don't mess with Mama Bear! I know it must have been frustrating, but I have to

tell you I had a good laugh at the part about them not losing much because your

kids are never sick and you don't vax.

And what did your husband say??

When I told him the story he was fine with the switch... he likes our

GP anyway and he knows my views on the allopaths. He laughed when I

told him what I told the office manager, too. He doesn't like docs

much either and just wants our kids established at a doc somewhere so

that we have an official doc if we have to go back to the ER. They

grill you over and over on who the kids' doctor is when you're there,

and frown when you give them the name of your chiro. LOL I couldn't

care less, but it bothered him a little at how many times we were

asked who our kid's primary doc was.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at that ped's office tomorrow!

Well, it was against my better judgement, but my husband really wanted

me to register my children with a ped so that we'd have rapport with

one regarding my baby's asthma (He turns one today, btw, Happy

Birthday my little !).  Since I can now take my little one to

the drop in daycare up the street (they don't take children under

one), I figured that would be a good excuse to go in and get the ped

to sign off on their enrollment form.  My husband wanted me to call a

particular ped's group here for two reasons:  1.  They saw my older

son when he was two and inhaled a pistachio that had to be surgically

removed.  It was a doc there that was the ONLY one that believed me

when I told her my son needed intervention -- all the other docs I

took him to thought I was an overprotective, panicky mom. (Ha!  If

they only knew how much I DON'T panic and run to the doctor!)  That

doc also wasn't overly concerned about us not vaxing, and *only* tried

to push DT or DTaP on us... which we refused... and 2.  They claim to

blend the holistic medicine with conventional medicine, although now

that I know more about holistic care, they aren't really very holistic

at all... other than dealing out combination homeopathic concoctions

on occasion, from what I've seen/heard.

So anyway, I call and get this flip little girl on the phone.  I tell

her I'd like to schedule my three-year-old in for his " yearly checkup "

and to establish my new baby.  She asked how old my new baby was, and

I replied " Why, he's one today! "   She immediately copped an attitude

with me.  She began giving me the third degree as to WHY I hadn't

brought my baby in to the practice before now, and where had he been

seen, etc.  When I stated that he'd only seen a doctor once, and that

was in the ER/Hospital she got even more cross... then she asked if I

was aware that I was late for my three-year-old's three-year well

visit, that is birthday was in December.  I asked her if we could just

make the appointment and that I'd be happy to discus any of these

concerns with the doctor.  She put me on hold.  She came back and

stated that she could go ahead an make the appointments but that I was

going to have to get all my baby's records from the midwife (somewhere

in there I told her my son was home birthed and had his initial care

with a midwife).  I said, " Well, I have copies of the birth records,

what else do you want? "   She stated that I'd need to have his

" Immunization record " sent over.  I said, " Oh, that's an easy one, we

don't vaccinate! "   Then she REALLY starting in with the attitude, so I

told her very sternly, " Never mind, don't schedule these appointments,

I'm going to call a someone who will let ME parent my children. " , and

hung up.

I was still seeing red, and called right back... because after all,

this ped's office is so freakin' important to my husband.  I got a

different lady, and she could tell I was hopping mad.  She suggested

we just start all over and was much better.  I got the appointments

set up that time without any incidence.  I hung up the phone and the

more I thought about it, the more disgusted I got.  After all it's

already like turning my kids over to the enemy in my mind... I

shouldn't have to feel such frustration before I even go in for the

darned appointment!  Besides that, we aren't using allopathy to treat

my son's asthma, we are treating with homeopathy and chiropractic (I'm

also going to start doing the epsom salt baths that I saw Dawn suggest

to someone else.)  So, I called my GP's office just to see how the

conversation would go.  My GP's office is very small - just the doc,

his wife who is his nurse, and the receptionist.  While there is

vaccine literature all over the office, he has told me several times

before before that he really doesn't care and wouldn't give me any

grief over it at all.  So, I call... of course, they are polite, kind

and respectful as usual.  I set up appointments with them for both

kids and got them to fax me the Authorization to Release Medical

Information form so that I could fill it out and fax it to the ped's

office right away.

I filled out the Authorization, faxed it to the ped's, then called to

cancel the appointments I had just made with them and make sure the

form I faxed was legible.  The girl that I had originally talked to

that pissed me off answered the phone again... when she realized it

was me she started sounding kind of sick-like and then put me on hold

and lo and behold, yet another person comes on the phone and

introduces herself as the office manager then asks why I'm pulling my

child from their care because they like to know if it's something they

did so they can improve on it.  I explained briefly what happened, and

the lady asked me if this was something they could work through with

me because they REALLY would hate to lose my kids as patients.  I told

her not to worry, that she wasn't losing much, since my kids are never

sick and I don't vaccinate.  They don't have to feel like they've just

lost a boat load of cash out of their pockets or anything... of course

she replied that money wasn't the concern... yeah right!  I thanked

her for the offer to " work it out " then hung up the phone.  The nerve!

Treat me like a 3rd rate citizen, then try and butter me up when I am

strong enough to stand up to them and exercise my right to take my

business elsewhere.  I'm hoping that if nothing else I reminded them

today just WHO should be bowing down to who to keep business!!  The

funny thing is that it really wasn't about the vaccines... it was

about the fact that they didn't see my baby at birth, two months,

three months, four months, six months, etc. becaus it's their " policy "

that if they see one kid for well care visits, that they see ALL your

kids for well-care visits. Tell me that's not about $$$.  Please!

Since when can any doctor's group dictate just how many of your

children you take to their practice???!!!

Anyway, sorry for the vent, just had to get it off my chest.  I do

feel better knowing the office manager at the ped's office knows her

staff ran a paying customer off. :)

I got a little tickled today... my son had a follow-up with our

homeopath today and my husband attended with me. We got on the

subject of allopaths and my husband VERY PROUDLY told our homeopath

all about how I fired the ped. She laughed, and I thought it was so

cool that my hubby was actually proud of that! :)
