Guest guest
My book on Pasteur was about the theory of fermentation and the germ theory. There was nothing about Pasteur and hospital sterilization. That sounds more like something that would be promoted by Florence Nightingale. Here is what Pasteur said, " It is a terrifying thought that life is at the mercy of the multiplication of these minute bodies , it is a consoling hope that Science will not always remain powerless before such enemies, since for example at the very beginning of the study we find that simple exposure to air is sufficient at times to destroy them. " Then he gives case histories of people who have boils, and how he takes the pus out, puts it under the microscope, sees the germs and CONCLUDES that the germs caused the boils. You would think that a bright boy like that would ask himself a couple of questions. Like how did people survive from the beginning if all those germs which he admits were everywhere. If the germ caused those boils and sickness, why did he and his fellow workers not catch them. He never explains the overall health of the person who has the boils, but we know they couldn't have been healthy with all that poison coming out of them. Why did he just assume that the germs were the enemies? What he was proposing was that a person could be perfectly healthy one minute and be attack by germs and get sick the next day. We now know that when a person gets sick it is because the immune system is down, and the real cause is whatever lowered the immune system, which could not be the germ as germs are everywhere and everybody would be sick all the time. Any way I will see if I have any more books about Pasteur. I think this Jed is stroking you. Lets put him to the test. Jim
