Guest guest
I used to have horrible UTIs when I was younger all the time. I haven't had one in YEARS (thank goodness)!! I also restrict my fluids and I have been known to go over 24 hours without urinating because I don't have a facility. The Freshette has helped me use a bathroom more frequently, and it's cleaner than sitting on and touching all those gross public facilities. But you mentioned drinking more water DOESNT help? I'm always told by my dr to drink more and more water or they'll come back. I also drink cranberry juice by the gallons. It's also easier to do this now that I'm home all day and do not have to worry if I'll be able to urinate when my bladder is full. > hi jenny, > > i have sma2 and am 38. i get severely debilitating uti's all the > time. they started in early childhood, though, weren't severe as they are > now. i restricted fluids for 30 years because it was difficult to > pee. this is a common factor. > > i now have kidney stones as a result of restricted fluids and calcium loss > through my urine - osteoporosis. the stones harbor bacteria, are difficult > to remove, and grow back easily. > > muscle weakness, despite now having a catheter, makes it difficult for my > bladder to fully drain without being squeezed manually. my niece, sma2 - > age 11 - no catheter, has this problem, too. a bladder that doesn't drain > enough can cause uti's. > > children, especially girls because of their shorter urethra, can be more > susceptible to uti's. find out if the contaminating bacteria is > ecoli. this is true 80% of the time. eliminate ways feces may be exposed > to the urethra. sex is a contaminating factor for sexually active women > and teens - condoms and clean hands/genitals helps. always wipe front to > back only once with the same fabric or tissue. wash and dry the area with > fresh towels only. prevent kids' fingers from touching feces. keep diaper > as clean as possible. drink lots of water, not sweet stuff. only treat > infections with antibiotics known to kill the existing bacteria - always > have them culture the urine - results in 2 days. see an infectious disease > specialist sooner rather than later if improved hygiene and increased water > intake doesn't work. > > i hope this helps! > > alana
Guest guest
kendra, you misunderstood me. i said restricting fluids causes problems and that one should " drink lots of water, not sweet stuff. " congratulations on not getting infections for so long. alana At 07:25 AM 12/17/2004, you wrote: >But you mentioned drinking more water DOESNT help? Guest guest
Interesting....I just read in the book, " Skinny Bitch " that there was a study that linked adult UTIs with eating meat. My guess is that if young girls are getting them, quite possibly it could be due to animals being used in the manufacturing of vaccines. Just guessing though. I just gave the copy of the book back to my cousin. Otherwise I would have cited the source of the study.
